Rive Roshan Leaves Space in Between for Reflection, Rumination

In a world saturated with information and quick judgments, the Dutch design studio Rive Roshan presented an exhibition titled 'The Space in Between' at Design Miami 2023, hosted by Rademakers Gallery. This exhibit, conceived by designers Ruben de la Rive Box and Golnar Roshan, aimed to create a space for introspection and reflection rather than mere visual consumption. The duo's philosophy centers on the belief that experiential art can be transformative, fostering connection and empathy. Their work encourages individuals to trust their intuition and internal motivations, providing a pause from the constant influx of external stimuli. The collection features a variety of meticulously designed objects that engage with light, movement, reflection, and perception. Key pieces include the 'Space in Between Table' and the 'Rise table,' both incorporating reflective, vibrant, and textured glass that diffuses colored light, creating an effect reminiscent of rippling water. These tables are designed to evoke a sense of tension and contrast through their placement and material interplay. Complementing these are the 'Polarity Panels,' which are a series of glass compositions with split textures, presenting a duality within a unified circular form. These panels are nuanced in their design, where a dividing line simultaneously unites two distinct tactile and colored components. Further exploring reflective and chromatic themes, the 'Color Shift Panels' feature similar fluted glass but are shaped into oblong forms, displaying radial gradients of shifting color fields. The 'Shift Wall Light' integrates these design principles into a tall, rectangular, wall-mounted luminaire, using electricity to activate atmospheric lighting effects. These pieces collectively create an environment that stimulates the senses and encourages engagement beyond superficial observation. Contrasting the ethereal quality of the glass pieces, the 'Voices' collection grounds the exhibit with tangible forms. This series comprises 3D-printed sand vessels, merging natural materials with innovative technology. The vessels' undulating, ribbed edges draw inspiration from Japanese kirigami paper sculptures and the fluid designs of Iris van Herpen's garments. These physical folds serve as a symbolic homage, echoing the voices of Iranian women advocating for freedom. Additionally, the 'Pebble Stool' and 'Sand in Motion Pleat Side Table' are bronze artifacts that distill the characteristics of the 'Voices' collection, offering corresponding yet contrasting forms that further enrich the dialogue within the exhibition. Each element within 'The Space in Between' is crafted to foster an interaction not only among the furnishings themselves but also with those who experience them. As Rive Roshan transitions from one exhibition to the next, elements from 'The Space in Between' are being integrated into various bespoke interior installations. These include a large-scale, wall-filling color shift installation at Penn1 in Manhattan and a custom commission for an American corporate headquarters overseas. The designers emphasize that incorporating such moments into daily life, whether in interior spaces, public areas, or institutions, creates opportunities for connection and evokes joy or empathy. Their ultimate goal is to design objects and spaces that influence the mind, recognizing that design extends beyond mere functionality to shape one's experience and current state of being. #RiveRoshan #TheSpaceInBetween #DesignMiami2023 #RademakersGallery #ExperientialArt #InteriorDesign #ConceptualDesign #ReflectionAndRumination #ArtInstallation #RiveRoshan #TheSpaceInBetween #DesignMiami2023 #RademakersGallery #ExperientialArt #InteriorDesign #ConceptualDesign #ReflectionAndRumination #ArtInstallation
