3 garden furniture styles that are going out of style in 2025

As spring arrives and attention turns to outdoor living spaces, a transition in garden furniture trends is underway, with certain styles making way for new preferences in summer 2025. This evolution in design means that some popular garden furniture pieces are falling out of fashion, while others are emerging as their replacements. This analysis provides guidance for consumers looking to update their outdoor furnishings, drawing on insights from industry experts regarding current trends. One significant style losing favor is the egg chair. While previously a popular choice for alfresco seating, its bulky size and sometimes awkward shape are contributing to its decline. Experts from Cox & Cox and Harbour Lifestyle note that while the classic hanging egg chair has been a garden favorite, it is now seen as somewhat of a cliché and less versatile in various outdoor layouts. Alex Bridgman of Bridgman emphasizes that while egg chairs can be playful, they are increasingly perceived as novelty rather than essential. The trend is shifting towards more sophisticated statement armchairs and modular pieces. These new options prioritize generous proportions, enduring comfort, and timeless silhouettes that offer both style and substance, extending the comforts of indoor living to the outdoors with all-weather resilience and aesthetic appeal. Regarding color palettes, the prevalence of grey and beige in garden furniture is diminishing. Sales data from Heal’s indicates a move towards more vibrant shades over traditional neutrals. Olivia Moores from Hillier Garden Centres points out that classic grey rattan cube sets and cold-toned greys are becoming outdated, along with overly coordinated furniture, which now feels flat and one-dimensional. Instead, outdoor spaces are becoming more curated and expressive, with furniture colors reflecting broader lifestyle trends. The shift is towards warmer, earthier tones such as soft taupes, sand, and sun-baked terracotta, designed to create a sense of tranquility and connection with nature. Fresh green is particularly highlighted as a rising trend, with customers increasingly opting for green over black furniture, taking cues from natural environments. Finally, perfectly matching garden furniture sets are also going out of style, mirroring an internal home design shift away from matching sofa suites. Andrew White explains that consumers now desire personal outdoor spaces that feel developed over time, achieved by mixing different finishes and shapes rather than adhering to fully coordinated sets. Danielle Le Vaillant observes that while customers were once drawn to buildable ranges for a cohesive link, they now prefer to mix things up. The replacement for matching sets is modular furniture that offers adaptability and flexibility. Inspired by the popularity of modular sofas indoors, these outdoor versions allow for easy adaptation to changing needs and function as extensions of indoor living spaces. Large dining sets and comfortable L-shaped sofas are particularly trending, creating inviting atmospheres for relaxation and entertaining. The emphasis is on quality, versatility, and designs that harmonize with the space, ensuring longevity and timelessness, with materials like wood and powder-coated aluminum being cited as always in style due to their durability and natural beauty. In essence, the overarching theme for summer 2025 garden furniture is a move away from transient trends towards thoughtful, functional, and aesthetically pleasing pieces that enhance outdoor living with comfort, individuality, and a strong connection to nature. #GardenFurnitureTrends #OutdoorLiving #HomeDecor #DesignEvolution #StatementFurniture #ColorTrends #ModularDesign #SustainableDesign #GardenFurnitureTrends #OutdoorLiving #HomeDecor #DesignEvolution #StatementFurniture #ColorTrends #ModularDesign #SustainableDesign
