sea of undulating bricks floods chinese cinema café interiors by one plus partnership

The Hong Kong-based design firm, One Plus Partnership, has unveiled the Gaoxingli Insun Cinema and Coffee Bar in Haikou, China. This project, conceptualized under the theme "Footprints Fade, Waves Embrace," draws heavily from the coastal environment of Hainan. The interior design is characterized by flowing, wave-like structures that adorn the walls and ceilings, meticulously crafted from bricks of varying lengths and shades of topaz. These bricks, distinguished by their rough yet polished finish, are made from local sands, imparting an earthy quality to the space. The design integrates subtle glass panels that allow natural light to filter into the café area of the cinema, producing reflections that mimic sunlight dancing on ocean waves. The interior architecture consistently features layers of flowing forms, with curves and undulations present across the floors, walls, and countertops, all inspired by marine patterns. A keen attention to detail is evident in the concealed lighting and hidden ventilation systems, which are strategically placed to be visible only from specific vantage points, adding depth and intrigue to the overall aesthetic. Throughout the Gaoxingli Insun Cinema and Coffee Bar, the interior conveys a palpable sense of motion. The brick waves create a dynamic atmosphere, drawing visitors deeper into the space, while strategically placed lighting along the floor guides their path. The furniture, including tables and chairs, echoes the wave motif with curved edges that gently flare. The arrangement of bricks on surfaces varies, with some rising to create elevated forms and others lying low, contributing to the fluid, organic design. Even the flooring participates in this theme, featuring subtle waves in muted grey tones, illuminated to enhance visibility and ensure safe navigation. The extensive use of curves extends to countertops and booths, where combinations of color and shape evoke the impression of waves sculpted from diverse materials. As one navigates through the cinema and café, the interplay of light and shadow across the textured surfaces evokes the tranquil scenery typically found along riversides or beaches. The auditorium continues the cohesive design narrative with an artistic blend of colors and textures that sweep across the walls. The walls are lined with a dimensional fabric that resembles freshly cut wood, arranged in patterns that mirror the design elements seen in the lobby. The seating arrangements, coupled with warm color palettes, create an ambiance reminiscent of a florist’s workshop, enhanced by a subtle, imagined scent of lavender and peonies that contributes to a sense of comfort. Throughout the cinema, pillars and chairs are adorned with subtle pastels and autumnal shades, contributing to a gentle and unified warmth. The lobby offers guests a relaxing environment with copper-toned seating upholstered in plush, velvety fabric. These earthy tones evoke the imagery of autumn leaves and pumpkin spice, curating a cozy and inviting setting for visitors to unwind, further reinforcing the thematic inspiration derived from natural coastal and seasonal elements. #CinemaDesign #CafeInteriors #BrickArchitecture #CoastalInspiredDesign #WaveMotif #OnePlusPartnership #HaikouArchitecture #InteriorDesign #ChineseArchitecture #CinemaDesign #CafeInteriors #BrickArchitecture #CoastalInspiredDesign #WaveMotif #OnePlusPartnership #HaikouArchitecture #InteriorDesign #ChineseArchitecture
