Otti modular outdoor seating by Vincent Van Duysen for Sutherland Furniture
The Otti collection, designed by Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen for US brand Sutherland Furniture, introduces a highly customizable range of modular outdoor seating. This collection includes various configurations such as sectional and three-seater sofas, chaise longues, and armchairs. Each piece is characterized by its slender, powder-coated aluminum frame, which provides a modern and precise structural foundation.
A distinctive feature of the Otti collection is the use of woven acrylic rope that wraps around the aluminum frames. This design element serves as a tribute to Bauhaus textile artist and weaver Otti Berger, from whom the collection derives its name. Van Duysen highlighted that the rope infuses the collection with a sense of modernity and warmth, creating an appealing contrast between the organic texture of the rope and the refined detailing of the aluminum structure.
Initially launched in 2019, the Otti range has been further developed to incorporate additional modular components. This enhancement allows users greater flexibility in arranging the seating into diverse configurations, catering to a variety of outdoor spaces and personal preferences. Van Duysen drew inspiration for the collection from classic ornamental metal-cast chairs frequently found in elegant terraces, parks, and traditional French gardens along the French Riviera, aiming for an aesthetic that is both elegant and timeless.
The collection is presented in a selection of neutral tones, including noir black and bone white, offering versatile options to complement different outdoor environments. Beyond seating, the Otti collection also extends to a series of outdoor coffee tables, side tables, and dining tables. These tables feature tops crafted from lava stone, specifically sourced from Mount Vesuvius, adding a unique and durable material element to the collection.
This collection represents a blend of contemporary design with historical artistic influences, providing functional yet sophisticated outdoor furniture solutions. The emphasis on modularity and a carefully curated palette ensures that the Otti collection can adapt to various design schemes while maintaining its distinctive character.
