Dwayne Bergmann’s grounding blend of black walnut, natural agate and sandy faux fur
Dwayne Bergmann, a Florida-based designer, shares his current mood board, which he describes as “Monterey, California, meets Ralph Lauren.” The design scheme emphasizes warm, grounding spaces achieved through luxurious materials and modern decor accents. The palette primarily consists of soothing earth tones, featuring beiges and browns, complemented by bold contemporary pieces. This approach creates a cozy, calming environment by integrating colors and textures rooted in the natural world, resulting in a synchronous display of light, airy hues anchored by organic finishes and rich saturated colors.
Bergmann details the specific elements that contribute to this aesthetic. For flooring, he selects Tresor hardwood floor sample in Jolie by Provenza Floors, noting that oak provides a rich warmth without being overly golden. For seating, the Aire side chair in black walnut by Summer Classics is chosen for its style, contrast, and functionality, aligning with Bergmann's firm's philosophy of “livable luxury.” To add depth and sophistication, especially for a statement wall, he incorporates Tambora Denali wooden veneer sample by Materials Inc. Wallcoverings, specifically Scope wallcovering in Linen by Arte, are used to introduce texture without overpowering the space. Contemporary elements are introduced through the Blob bowl set by Philippi, providing a juxtaposition against the warmer tones.
Textiles play a crucial role in enhancing luxury and comfort. Stout faux fur fabric in Sand by Kravet is chosen for opulent pillows. For surfaces, a brown faux Carrara marble sample by Roos International Ltd., made of resin, mimics onyx and elevates the design without competing with other patterns. Trevi fabric in Steel Blue by Savel Inc. is selected for its durability, antibacterial properties, and ability to be dyed in rich custom colors. Artisan accents are provided by ribbed belting leather in brown by Hancock & Moore, ideal for chair arm panels.
The floor is further defined by the Klemens rug in Fog by Holland & Sherry Interiors, which represents a modern, luxurious take on coastal design, blending “Olde Florida” with contemporary oceanfront resort aesthetics. For a foundational framework, Akoya Ivory matte porcelain tile by Elysium is used for its rich, tonal, and striking abstract painterly pattern. Upholstery is given texture and luxury with Agnello fabric in Pristine by The Vale London, a white boucle. Natural agate precioustone by Antolini is incorporated as a dramatic work of art, especially when backlit. A versatile and resilient bespoke hide rug sample in Bark by Yerra complements the organic color palette. Finally, the Willoughby drawer pull by Wilmette Leather, a walnut leather-wrapped pull, adds a modern industrial touch, and Bontecou fabric in Bronze by S. Harris serves as a soft white backdrop with subtle warm hues, allowing other design elements to stand out.
