Immerse Yourself With Patricia Urquiola and Moroso at Heimtextil
The "among-us" installation at Heimtextil 2025, a 650 m² design by Patricia Urquiola in collaboration with Moroso, transformed Hall 12.0 of the textile trade fair. This expansive and open-concept installation serves as a platform for exploring innovative textile concepts, engaging in design discussions, and addressing sustainability. Patricia Urquiola's vision for "among-us" emphasizes the transformative power of textile design, highlighting its enduring influence on human civilization. The installation's title itself, "among-us," signifies togetherness and the celebration of new, hybrid relationships, manifest in a playful landscape populated by imaginative, hybrid creatures.
The installation features contributions from various partners, enriching the textile landscape. These include Insula lounge islands by Kettal, upholstered with Kvadrat fabrics, and hanging textiles crafted by cc-tapis using Aquafil’s regenerated nylon yarn. Moroso provides the seating elements, integral to the installation's character. Moroso's contributions include plush lounge seating pieces like '_Gruuvelot_', '_Mushmonster_', and '_Giano_', which challenge conventional perceptions of furniture. These pieces are described as playful, organic, and seemingly alive, featuring dynamic upholstery that introduces varied textures and a mottled, almost squid-like coloring.
Heimtextil serves as an international trade fair dedicated to innovations within the textile sector, with a particular focus on advancements in sustainability and new product releases. Patricia Urquiola, founder of Studio Urquiola, views Heimtextil as an ideal venue for fostering dialogue that extends beyond the fair itself, creating continuous engagement with individuals interested in textiles. She values the opportunity for personal exchange, emphasizing a desire to both present new ideas and actively listen to feedback. Olaf Schmidt, Vice President of Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt, acknowledges the privilege of collaborating with Patricia Urquiola and Studio Urquiola, citing a shared enthusiasm for creative endeavors, trend discussions, and sustainable solutions in textile design.
Moroso, established in 1952 by Agostino and Diane Moroso, began by producing sofas, armchairs, and furnishing accessories. The brand quickly became recognized for its commitment to uncompromising quality, innovation, and creativity, driven by a strong design sensibility and efficient manufacturing processes. In the 1980s, the second generation of the Moroso family took leadership, further elevating the brand's profile. Moroso has since partnered with a diverse array of renowned designers globally, including Ross Lovegrove, Konstantin Grcic, and Tord Boontje, continually pushing the boundaries of furniture design.
Studio Urquiola, founded in 2001 by Patricia Urquiola and Alberto Zontone, brought a fresh perspective to the design industry. Patricia Urquiola, who studied architecture and design at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Politecnico di Milano under Achille Castiglioni, applies Castiglioni's principle of the "fundamental element" in her work. This principle posits that spaces should be conceived in relation to human experience, a philosophy Urquiola fully embodies by designing spaces and objects that engage both the emotional and rational aspects of individuals.
