Simbatex Foam Mattress review: firm support that’s deliciously comfortable
The Simbatex Foam Mattress, launched in 2022, is an all-foam mattress by Simba, a brand known for its hybrid mattresses. This review evaluates whether the mattress lives up to its claims of being cool, fresh, luxurious, low-impact, and affordable. The mattress features a four-layer construction, steering away from Simba's typical combination of foam and springs. T3, a platform that has consistently praised Simba's products, including their Hybrid Pro and Hybrid Luxe models, highlights the Simbatex Foam Mattress as a more affordable option, only slightly more expensive than the Simba Hybrid and Simba Hybrid Essential.
The unboxing process for the Simbatex Foam Mattress, a 25cm deep model available in various sizes from Single to Super King, was straightforward. The mattress, vacuum-packed and rolled, expanded easily into a double bed base. A temporary chemical odor, typical for rolled mattresses, dissipated quickly after unboxing. The design of the mattress is centered around its four engineered foam layers. The exterior is an anti-allergic, removable knitted cover that is soft and features a zip for easy cleaning and handles for maneuvering. Beneath this is the cooling cushioning Simbatex comfort layer, made of CertiPUR foam with an open-cell structure designed to provide 30 times more airflow than standard memory foam mattresses. This layer is also infused with heat-absorbing graphite for enhanced breathability and cooling.
The third layer is a Simba-Response foam layer, which contributes to the mattress's firmness and also features an open-cell structure to maintain airflow and provide support. The base consists of a high-density foam layer, engineered for zoned pressure relief. Initial impressions of comfort noted the mattress's firmness, which was a change for the reviewer accustomed to spring mattresses. However, the Simbatex Foam Mattress adapted to the body without the common 'sinking' feeling associated with memory foam. It offered significant support for the hips and lower back, proving comfortable for both side and back sleepers, with minimal motion transfer.
The cooling properties of the mattress were effective, maintaining a comfortable temperature even during fluctuating seasonal weather. A minor observation was the tactile presence of the knitted cover's texture through bed sheets, though this was not a significant detraction. The main criticism identified was the slight dipping at the edges of the mattress, which could be a concern for individuals sleeping close to the edge. Despite this, the overall comfort and support were highly rated.
Priced competitively within the Simba range, the Simbatex Foam Mattress costs £679 for a Single, £799 for a Double, £899 for a King, and £999 for a Super King. Simba offers a 1-year free trial, allowing customers to return the mattress for a full refund if not satisfied, and a 10-year guarantee. The mattress received a 5-star rating for its comfort and support, which reportedly reduced aches and pains for the reviewer and their partner. For those seeking alternatives, the Simba Hybrid Essential is suggested as a similar model with a blend of springs and foam, while the Nectar Memory Foam mattress is recommended for foam enthusiasts looking for a firm, comfortable, and cooling option.
