The bestselling wallpaper designs of 2024: William Morris reigns
Wallpaperdirect, celebrating its 25th birthday, has observed a significant 70 percent increase in searches for wallpaper this year, indicating its enduring popularity as a design tool. Modern wallpapers are noted for their ease of application and removal, making them a practical choice for both homeowners and renters. Melanie Adams, global head of Wallpaperdirect, highlights a growing demand for classic designs, even when original colors and scales are outdated, suggesting that a new generation of users is being inspired by these timeless patterns. The company, launched in 1999 by C. Brewer & Sons, offers an extensive collection of over 25,000 wallpapers from various designers, including Andrew Martin, Clarke & Clarke, William Morris, and Osborne & Little. This article outlines the top 10 bestselling wallpaper designs for 2024.
The top spot is held by Morris Pimpernel wallpaper in bayleaf/manilla. This design is a bestseller due to its historical significance, having been chosen by William Morris himself for his dining room at Kelmscott House. It features a classic Morris-style floral trellis with a strong symmetrical pattern within the leaves, available in robust colorways that appeal to diverse aesthetics, bridging traditional design with contemporary recoloring. The second most popular design is Sandberg Raphael wallpaper in blue, inspired by the trees of Central Park, known for creating a calm atmosphere. Morris Willow Boughs wallpaper in willow/ecru, another Morris classic, ranks third, featuring curved willow branches in an exclusively recolored and non-woven print.
Cole & Son Florencecourt wallpaper, which takes its name from the Florencecourt Yew, a historic British tree, is the fourth bestseller. This design uses both surface and flexographic print techniques to create dense foliage. Fifth is Albany Amelie Texture wallpaper, an all-over plain design with a subtle texture, suitable for minimalist spaces. Arthouse White Brick wallpaper is sixth, offering a brick-effect texture ideal for industrial-style interiors. Morris Pimpernel wallpaper reappears at seventh place, this time in a privet/slate colorway, featuring the same floral trellis design with soft green and blue shades, created exclusively on non-woven paper.
Eighth on the list is Arthouse Japanese Garden wallpaper from the Signature Arthouse collection, depicting soaring birds and an enchanting Japanese treescape. Timothy Wilman Highgrove wallpaper, a traditional design showcasing peonies and roses, is the ninth bestseller, providing an elegant, spring-like scene. Finally, Laura Ashley Magnolia Grove wallpaper completes the top ten, presenting a painterly magnolia design in a natural beige colorway, well-suited for living rooms or hallways. The compilation demonstrates a blend of classic, nature-inspired, and textured designs that have resonated most with consumers in 2024.
