Popular Instagram Lily Pad tile is now available in a cheaper option!
The Lily Pad tile, a design that has garnered significant popularity on Instagram, particularly throughout 2018, is now accessible to a wider range of budgets. Originally, this highly sought-after design was exclusively available as a handmade artisan encaustic cement tile, which, while beautiful, comes with a higher price tag and specific maintenance requirements. Recognizing the immense demand and the desire for a more affordable alternative, Ca'Pietra, the company behind the design, has launched a porcelain version of the Lily Pad tile.
The original encaustic cement Lily Pad tiles are renowned for their artisanal quality but require sealing and a certain level of ongoing maintenance. This can be a deterrent for some homeowners due to the commitment involved. In contrast, the newly introduced porcelain Lily Pad tiles are man-made, making them significantly lower in maintenance. They do not require sealing and can be easily cleaned to retain their original appearance. Furthermore, these porcelain tiles are thinner than their cement counterparts, making them an ideal choice for wall installations, which expands their application possibilities within home design.
From a cost perspective, the difference is substantial. The encaustic cement tiles are priced at £3.96 per tile, whereas the porcelain version of the same design is available for just £2.30 per tile. This price reduction makes the distinctive Lily Pad pattern more attainable for individuals working with various budget constraints, allowing more people to incorporate this trendy design into their homes.
The Lily Pad tile's rise to prominence is largely credited to influencers like Alex Stedman, also known as @thefrugality, a stylist and lifestyle blogger. Her home renovation posts, especially those featuring her bathroom, have extensively showcased the Lily Pad tile, driving its popularity on platforms like Instagram. Images of her en-suite bathroom, featuring blue Lily Pad tiles complemented by brass fixtures, have garnered thousands of likes, highlighting the tile's aesthetic appeal and versatility.
The design's appeal lies in its ability to offer a bespoke feel, even with its widespread popularity. Homeowners can arrange the Lily Pad tiles in a uniform 'star burst' pattern, as demonstrated by Alex Stedman, for a cohesive and striking look. Alternatively, the pattern can be mixed and varied to create a more random and unique aesthetic, offering creative flexibility in design. This adaptability makes the Lily Pad tile suitable for a range of interior styles, whether for a bold statement or a subtle enhancement in bathrooms or kitchens, making a stylish impact in any home space.
