Kelsey Hermanson, a dedicated Disney enthusiast from Seattle, has transformed her family home into a vibrant and imaginative Disney-themed abode, where each room is inspired by a classic Disney film. Having grown up in Southern California with frequent visits to Disneyland, Hermanson aimed to recreate the park's immersive and magical atmosphere within her own living space, allowing her family and guests to experience a sense of wonder in every room. Her objective was to escape reality and enter a different world, an experience she fondly associates with Disneyland.
The home tour begins with an entry room themed after Disney’s "Tangled," characterized by purple and yellow accents, thematic artwork, and a purple couch adorned with colorful pillows featuring Rapunzel and other elements from the 2010 animated movie. Moving beyond the entryway, a "Beauty and the Beast"-themed dining room invites guests to be a part of their world. The house also features bathrooms inspired by "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin," alongside a "Cinderella"-themed master bedroom designed to evoke a royal ambiance.
Hermanson has also created an "Aloha Disney Room," a living space that draws inspiration from her family's Hawaiian travels and incorporates elements from "Lilo & Stitch" and "Moana." This colorful blue room is designed to provide a relaxing, beach-like atmosphere. Hermanson emphasizes that her elaborate decorating projects are executed on a budget, often involving sourcing accents and furniture from thrift stores or online platforms. The first room she decorated was an "Alice in Wonderland"-themed bathroom, conceptualized to make visitors feel as though they are descending into a rabbit hole, much like Alice herself.
While most of the house is Disney-themed, Hermanson’s 7-year-old daughter Patina’s room features a Nintendo theme, and her husband Eric’s office includes some Disney artwork but no overarching theme. Hermanson particularly cherishes her Cinderella-themed master bedroom, where she personally restored and painted antique furniture to achieve a dreamy aesthetic. During holidays, she customizes the decorations further, with a "Coco" theme for Halloween in the living room, "Nightmare Before Christmas" elements in the fall, a "Little Mermaid" Christmas makeover, and a "Frozen"-themed front yard. Hermanson, whose favorite Disney character is Ariel, revealed that she never anticipated the widespread attention her home would receive on social media but expresses joy in sharing a touch of Disney magic with her followers daily.
