Minimalist architecture and simply beautiful interiors are a match made in heaven for this Florida home

This Florida home, a 2020 new build, exemplifies a seamless integration of minimalist architecture and monochromatic interior design, resulting in a serene and balanced living space. Constructed on a relatively small 80-foot by 80-foot plot, the project was approached by architect Jeffrey Dungan with creative freedom, leading to a unique aesthetic that blends different styles and eras to evoke a sense of history. The cool white exterior walls are complemented by a calming, monochromatic interior scheme, achieved through the expertise of Atlanta-based interior designer Beth Webb. The open-plan main living space features whitewashed walls, textured concrete, and wood finishes. Expansive steel-framed glass is subtly softened by the warm, organic tones of natural wood furniture. Dungan emphasizes the dialogue between architecture and interiors, noting how materials and forms from the exterior naturally extend indoors, creating an interplay of masculine and feminine elements. He describes the house as feeling like an "old ruin" where glass has been integrated into the interior, offering a playful yet serious contrast that adds a sense of mystery. The kitchen, positioned through an archway, maintains the monochrome theme with white walls, black-framed cabinets, and substantial use of Asian statuary honed marble for the backsplash and island. The choice of concrete and stucco for the exterior, due to Florida's hot and hurricane-prone climate, also influenced the interior material palette, which includes tiles, wood, and various concrete textures. Unique elements like B.D. Jeffries' island stools further enhance the Zen-like atmosphere. In the living room, a striking textured wall of board-formed concrete with a limewashed finish adds understated luxury and interest to the monochromatic scheme. Rough-hewn wood chairs from B.D. Jeffries contrast elegantly with a sleek marble coffee table by Sublime Original. Other furnishings include a Verellen sofa, lamps and a stool from A Tyner Antiques, and a vintage rug from Keivan Woven Arts. Staircase design plays a crucial role in maximizing the home's smaller footprint, with clever changes in levels defining both indoor and outdoor spaces. Dungan highlights the complex, custom-designed steel and glass rail system, which involved extensive prototyping. The home bar area introduces a change in mood with dark walls, specifically Shou Sugi Ban, a Japanese charred wood finish. This cozy, sociable space features an organic rough-hewn coffee table and a dark sofa. Similarly, the home office incorporates a dramatic dark-finished wall, balanced by a gray desk and white upholstered armchairs from Sublime Original, with contemporary artwork from B.D. Jeffries adhering to the earthy, monochrome palette. Bedroom designs continue the white, black, gray, and natural wood scheme, with a dramatic vaulted ceiling providing a sense of spaciousness. Nightstands from Sublime Original, a vintage rug from Keivan Woven Arts, and lamps and stools from B.D. Jeffries complete the look. The shower room, though small, receives the same meticulous attention to detail, featuring dark-veined marble walls for a cocooning effect and steel-framed ribbed glass doors that echo exterior architectural elements. The basin and vanity alcove showcase more veined marble and an oval, scalloped-edge mirror, softened by a single Florida palm leaf. The tranquil ground-level courtyard features water flowing from a second-floor infinity pool into a smaller pool below floating stairs. Sculptures from Jerry Pair & Associates are displayed on a unique diving-board-style plinth. Dungan designed three terraces, each 12 feet higher than the last, to provide private outdoor spaces, creating a dynamic experience of spiraling upwards through the home's exterior. The front elevation reveals Dungan's intention to imbue the new-build with a sense of history by blending gothic elements with a clean, spare aesthetic, and incorporating mid-century modern influences, resulting in a unique and original home. #MinimalistArchitecture #MonochromaticInterior #FloridaHomeDesign #CustomHome #IndoorOutdoorLiving #TexturedInteriors #ArchitecturalDesign #InteriorDesign #LuxuryHome #MinimalistArchitecture #MonochromaticInterior #FloridaHomeDesign #CustomHome #IndoorOutdoorLiving #TexturedInteriors #ArchitecturalDesign #InteriorDesign #LuxuryHome
