In This Pastel London Bathroom, the Green Grout Matches the Faucet

Lindsey Isla embarked on a DIY bathroom renovation in her London flat, the final room to be upgraded in the home she shares with her fiancé. The couple had already completed a kitchen renovation, which left them with an abundance of basic square tiles that became the foundation for the bathroom's new look. Isla's vision for the bathroom was to incorporate color without making the space feel overwhelming, leading her to choose a cheerful mint green faucet as her central inspiration. This faucet then informed her decision to use a verdant green grout, which she believed would effectively break up the expanse of white tiles while maintaining a calming atmosphere. The six-week renovation, which rendered their only bathroom temporarily unusable, transformed a dated space into a personalized sanctuary. The renovation was a family affair, with Isla's brother, a shipwright, constructing a custom shelf for the sink and her partner assisting with the tiling. An unexpected but impactful suggestion from her brother involved tearing out the ceiling. This decision, though not part of the initial plan, was crucial in making the bathroom feel significantly larger, especially after walls were moved by about six inches to accommodate new plumbing. The exposed joists were then painted a peachy pink to match the ceiling, highlighting the architectural change without dominating the room's aesthetic. Isla's commitment to her colorful design choices is evident throughout the space, from the green grout to the electric purple cabinets, which are consistent with other storage solutions in her home, such as a lilac locker in her office and built-ins in her bedroom. Despite the unique and bold color palette, Isla made thoughtful design decisions with future homeowners in mind. She opted for a black showerhead and a white radiator, elements that can easily be integrated into a more minimalist aesthetic if she decides to sell the flat. She also noted the flexibility of her design, stating that the colored grout could be easily covered, and walls repainted, to create a more traditional bathroom appearance. However, the distinctive sage green faucet is a personal touch that Isla plans to take with her when she eventually moves. This project showcases a successful blend of personal style, practical DIY, and consideration for long-term versatility, transforming a functional space into a vibrant and unique feature of her home. #BathroomRenovation #DIYDesign #PastelDecor #GreenGrout #LondonHome #ColorInspiration #SmallSpaceDesign #BeforeAndAfter #HomeImprovement #BathroomRenovation #DIYDesign #PastelDecor #GreenGrout #LondonHome #ColorInspiration #SmallSpaceDesign #BeforeAndAfter #HomeImprovement
