Only in SoCal: The Country’s First Feng Shui McDonald’s

This article discusses the renovation of a McDonald's restaurant in Hacienda Heights, California, which incorporated Feng Shui principles, making it the first McDonald's in the nation to do so. The redesign aims to create a more relaxing and inviting atmosphere, encouraging customers to linger longer, similar to the ambiance found in coffee shops like Starbucks. The previous Hi-C red and electric yellow color scheme has been replaced with earth tones and exotic flora to align with Feng Shui elements. The renovation also includes the addition of a McCafe, an upscale coffee bar, and exterior water elements symbolizing life and relaxation. Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese practice, focuses on arranging spaces to achieve harmony with the environment. The design of this McDonald's integrates the five elements of fire, earth, wood, water, and metal to influence the flow of energy. Specifically, water elements on the exterior symbolize life and relaxation, while red accents and fire elements within the dining area are intended to bring good luck, laughter, and light. The dining space features symmetrically balanced seating arrangements in earth-toned shades and pendant lights to enhance warmth. An elevated PlayPlace and three plasma televisions are also part of the new design. The unique design was a collaborative effort between Feng Shui Grand Master Dr. Chi-Jean Liu and the Long Beach design firm JBI Industries, Inc. Mark Brownstein, a McDonald’s owner/operator, stated that the goal of the Feng Shui design is to create a soothing environment that enhances the dining experience for customers. This particular McDonald’s is also noted for being the first in the San Gabriel Valley to feature a McCafe, offering a variety of coffee drinks such as cappuccinos, lattes, and mochas, prepared with McDonald’s Premium Roast Coffee. Dr. Liu, a recipient of various national and international awards, has been featured in several media outlets for his expertise in Feng Shui. JBI Industries, Inc. has a four-decade history as a leader in quick-service restaurant design, focusing on creating appealing interiors that drive sales. Mark Brownstein, along with his business partners Peter Horner and Bryan Carmack, collectively own 23 McDonald’s restaurants in Southern California and are part of the McDonald’s Operators’ Association of Southern California, which represents over 600 franchised and company-owned McDonald’s locations across several counties. #FengShuiDesign #RestaurantRedesign #McDonaldsInnovation #InteriorDesign #HaciendaHeights #McCafe #EnvironmentalHarmony #RetailAtmosphere #FengShuiDesign #RestaurantRedesign #McDonaldsInnovation #InteriorDesign #HaciendaHeights #McCafe #EnvironmentalHarmony #RetailAtmosphere
