This Ultra-Feminine Lounge Is a Love Letter to Lilly Pulitzer
Designer Amanda Reynal's room at the 2025 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach is a vibrant ladies' lounge, drawing inspiration from her childhood memories of visiting Palm Beach and shopping at the iconic Lilly Pulitzer store. Reynal, who grew up frequenting the area, seized the opportunity presented by Lee Jofa's new fabric and wallpaper collection, a collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer, to create a space that embodies the lively and welcoming spirit of Palm Beach living. Her design transforms a former office space, complete with an adjoining powder room, into a sophisticated and cheerful retreat.
The lounge features two distinct seating areas, designed to accommodate various social settings, from intimate conversations to larger gatherings. The layout also caters to quiet moments, offering a comfortable spot to relax with a book on a rainy afternoon, with a burl wood coffee table from Made Goods as a central element. A mahjong table is strategically placed near one of the seating areas, allowing guests to enjoy games without being excluded from ongoing conversations.
Reynal emphasizes that her interpretation of Palm Beach style is more relaxed and colorful, focusing on outdoor living and a vibrant, cheerful atmosphere, rather than excessive formality. The room's aesthetic is anchored by a Lee Jofa x Lilly Pulitzer grasscloth wallcovering, adorned with aqua and green palm trees, creating a bold yet elegant backdrop. The windows are dressed with custom kelly green lambrequins and curtains, fabricated by The Shade Store, further enhancing the room's cohesive color scheme.
Further personal touches and nods to the Pulitzer legacy are incorporated through artwork, including decorative tortoise shells by Lilly Pulitzer's daughter, Minnie Pulitzer, and photography by her grandson, Chris Leidy. The adjoining powder room continues the theme with a teal Kohler toilet and sink, reminiscent of the brand's aesthetic from the 1960s. Despite these thematic elements, Reynal was careful to ensure the lounge felt livable and sophisticated, rather than overly decorated or like a retail space. She aimed to create an interior that clients would enjoy living with long-term, emphasizing that home decor requires a more considered approach than fashion choices, as interiors are not changed daily. Her design philosophy prioritizes a balanced use of color and pattern to avoid an overwhelming effect, ensuring the space remains both stylish and comfortable for everyday living.
