American Rhapsody: Doug Meyer’s Inspired Hardware Collection

Artist and designer Doug Meyer has collaborated with Modern Matter to launch a new decorative hardware collection named 'American Rhapsody'. This collection is structured into four distinct groups, each inspired by specific periods or movements in American design history. Meyer's objective was to create distinctive, timeless, and untrendy decorative hardware that was not yet available in the market. The first group, 'Americana', reinterprets traditional American design elements. Meyer applied Colonial Williamsburg-inspired blues and greens to classic hardware shapes, such as a Chippendale-style batwing drawer pull and a Shaker-style knob with a backplate. He emphasizes the transformative power of color, stating that it can elevate a simple, mundane object into something remarkable. The second group, 'Kiss and Hug', draws inspiration from the Pop Art era of the late 1960s, referencing cultural phenomena like Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In and the psychedelic art of Peter Max. For this group, Meyer designed 'X' and 'O' cabinet pulls crafted from enamel and brass, aiming to infuse spaces with color and whimsy. The 'Falling Water' group is a tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic architecture. Meyer was particularly drawn to the burnished brass capabilities of Modern Matter and sought to combine ceramic with unique glazes, ensuring each piece possesses individuality. This group also includes the 'Sherwood Forest' series, which takes inspiration from the natural patina of oxidized brass and organic forms, reflecting a connection to nature. Finally, the 'Foundation' group celebrates American architectural ingenuity, specifically channeling the influence of Louis Sullivan, often regarded as the father of skyscrapers. This group features bold, linear designs, including the 'Rebar' pull and the intricately detailed 'Dahlia' pull, which blend both masculine and feminine aesthetic elements. Across all four groups, Meyer's vision for the 'American Rhapsody' collection is to offer unique and enduring decorative hardware options that stand apart in the marketplace. #DougMeyer #ModernMatter #AmericanRhapsody #DecorativeHardware #InteriorDesign #DesignCollection #PopArt #FrankLloydWright #LouisSullivan #DougMeyer #ModernMatter #AmericanRhapsody #DecorativeHardware #InteriorDesign #DesignCollection #PopArt #FrankLloydWright #LouisSullivan
