5 Things You Should Never Put Above Your Bed — Especially If You Want Good Feng Shui in Your Home
The bedroom, intended as a serene and harmonious sanctuary, requires careful consideration of its decor, particularly items placed above the bed, to align with Feng Shui principles. While aesthetically pleasing, certain objects can disrupt the energetic balance, leading to restlessness and hindering positive energy flow.
Books, despite their intellectual appeal, carry immense energy that can prevent relaxation and disturb sleep when positioned above the bed. Feng Shui expert Dee Oujiri suggests relocating literary collections to a corner or away from the headboard within the bedroom, rather than removing them entirely from the room. Shoes, although some may consider them symbols of good luck, are interpreted in Feng Shui as representing being walked over, indicating a need for them to be stored in dedicated spaces like a closet, far from the bed, to avoid negative energetic associations.
Similarly, photo albums and photographic prints, especially those with strong emotional attachments, can keep individuals tethered to the past and contribute to wakefulness. The recommendation is to digitize photos to reduce clutter or store physical albums in a separate closet, thereby clearing space for positive energy. Workout gear, though beneficial for health, introduces active energy into the sleeping area, which can lead to a busy mind and interrupted sleep. It is advised to keep all exercise equipment out of the bedroom, especially from any overbed storage.
Finally, electronics are strongly discouraged above or near the bed due to the proven unhealthy effects of Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs). Removing phones, computers, and other electronic devices entirely from the bedroom is considered crucial for promoting healthy sleep and overall well-being. According to Suzanne Roynon, another Feng Shui expert, the ideal scenario is to have nothing directly above the head while sleeping, apart from a tall, supportive headboard, as anything hanging exerts downward pressure on the sleeper. However, if some decor is desired, Dee Oujiri suggests using this space to visualize aspirations, such as a painting of a dream home or travel destination, to manifest desires. Adhering to these guidelines, alongside considering Feng Shui bedroom colors, layout, and avoiding the 'death position' (where the feet point directly towards the door), can significantly contribute to creating an optimal sleeping environment that is energetically balanced and conducive to restful sleep.
