Norda
Norda, a restaurant situated within the 1925-era Clarion Hotel Post in Gothenburg, Sweden, has undergone a significant refresh by Spik Studios, transforming it into a lush and sophisticated dining experience. This concept is designed as a more mature counterpart to the hotel's existing Bon Bon Bar, also a creation of Spik Studios. While Bon Bon Bar is characterized by its glamorous, pink-themed interior, featuring a 131-foot blush velvet sofa and an ornate angular carpet, Norda embraces a refined aesthetic with a strong emphasis on sustainability, natural elements, and greenery.
Emma Nora Hedberg, an interior architect at Spik Studios, highlights that despite their distinct designs, Norda and Bon Bon Bar complement each other effectively, sharing a common postal hall. The redesign for Norda was heavily influenced by its commitment to locally sourced cuisine. The objective was to cultivate a vibrant, floral-inspired atmosphere that seamlessly integrates with the building's original features, such as stone ceilings and Art Deco accents.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a meticulously maintained canopy of greenery and solid oak, harmoniously balanced by stone details that echo the design sensibilities of the Bon Bon Bar. This canopy creates an inviting and natural entry point, contrasting with the more formal stone hall. The main dining area is defined by extensive banquette seating rendered in understated, natural tones. A sustainable approach was taken with the existing chairs, which were upcycled and reupholstered in botanical patterns, aligning with the restaurant's overall aesthetic.
To introduce intimacy within the space, laser-cut metal sheets function as elegant partitions for the bar area. The lighting fixtures in Norda draw inspiration from local craftsmanship, specifically referencing the round streetlights commonly found in Swedish parks. These lights are reinterpreted in a raw brass finish, adding a distinctive local touch. A local florist was instrumental in integrating large olive trees throughout the restaurant, further enhancing the vibrant and renewing spirit that defines the Norda dining experience.
