This Danish Lamp Fits on Shallow Shelves, Consoles, and Even Window Sills
Danish design brand Audo, a notable choice for lighting fixtures among editors and designers, has introduced two new lighting forms: the Chancery pendant and the Nonna table lamps. Audo is known for its dedication to both heritage design and the creation of new pieces, such as the JWDA lamp and the popular Dancing pendant. The new Chancery and Nonna lines, while conceived by different studios and drawing from distinct inspirations, both feature natural materials, earthy palettes, and metallic accents.
The Chancery pendant, designed by Norm Architects, a frequent Audo collaborator, was originally created for Chancery House in London. Its design draws inspiration from the architecture of the historic building itself, reflecting the stepped façade in its silhouette and using an aluminum shade to reference the underground silver market. Norm Architects partner Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen suggests pairing the pendant with muted tones and tactile surfaces in a dining room or entryway to highlight its shiny finish.
In contrast, the Nonna series, designed by Krøyer-Sætter-Lassen, focuses on optimizing lighting for small spaces. This series aims to blend contemporary and classic aesthetics through its use of materials like travertine, aluminum, and fabric, alongside a thoughtful scale. Co-founder Emil Krøyer notes that the design goal was to create a lamp that possesses a generous character while remaining physically compact, making it suitable for tight areas such as hallways, shelves, or smaller rooms without compromising its presence. The Nonna lamp’s base is less than 10 inches in circumference, and a wide version is only six inches deep, making it ideal for shallow shelves, window sills, and other confined spaces. The Nonna series is named in homage to grandmothers, who served as a source of inspiration for Krøyer and Sætter-Lassen in understanding atmospheric and mood-setting design.
