We asked 6 interior designers for their favorite bathroom remodels – these are the fabulous projects they picked
This blog post explores six distinctive bathroom remodels as selected by prominent interior designers, offering diverse inspirations for home decorators. It highlights how designers transform bathrooms into luxurious and functional spaces by leveraging color, texture, and materials.
The first featured project, by Thomas Griem of TG Studio, showcases a dark, layered mood designed to contrast with a snowy mountain environment. This monochromatic scheme relies on varied shapes and textures, such as a rectangular vanity unit with curved mirrors, smooth stained oak, and textured granite and plaster, to create visual interest.
Charlotte and Angus Buchanan of Buchanan Studio present a primary bathroom in London that blends Edwardian elegance with reclaimed elements. The design incorporates restored floorboards, an elevated marble fireplace, salvaged shower doors, and a roll-top bath, aiming to evoke the ambiance of an English country-house hotel.
Nicole Salvesen and Mary Graham of Salvesen Graham converted a bedroom into a spacious principal bathroom. Their design features Floral Trail Delicate wallpaper from their collection, balanced by a bold-veined marble in the shower enclosure, around the vanity, and beneath the bath. Bespoke bathroom curtains from Colefax and Fowler further enhance the room, conceptualizing the bathroom as a comfortable living space.
Tom Bartlett, founder of Waldo Works, shares a bathroom project for a friend, Melinda Stevens. The room is characterized by paneled walls that conceal wardrobes, with a consistent color scheme derived from the acrylic bath surround. A matte Breccia Rosado fireplace is recessed into the paneling, contributing to the room's unique aesthetic.
Steven Gambrel of SR Gambrel highlights a principal bathroom where he meticulously hand-picked blocks of Breccia Capraia marble. The dramatic veining of the stone creates a high-impact visual, while its soft grey hues add depth. The architectural detailing frames the natural beauty of the marble, demonstrating a sophisticated design approach.
Finally, Lucy Barlow, creative director of Barlow & Barlow, designed a small bathroom to feel uncluttered through architectural integration. The vanity unit and the entire space are covered in a custom-mixed green microcement, providing a seamless, durable, and waterproof finish that is both soothing and uplifting.
