homeware Lock coffee table uses flexible bamboo layers
The 'LOCK' coffee table, designed by Jan Paul, utilizes the inherent qualities, possibilities, and characteristics of highly sustainable bamboo. The table's frame is constructed from pressed layers of flexible bamboo, with its unique shape derived from the material's natural bending curve. These bamboo layers curve and entwine through each other, effectively locking themselves into place without additional fasteners. The design incorporates two distinct color-tones of bamboo, natural and caramel, for the layered frame. This 'layer cake' effect accentuates the table's curves and overall form. The resulting aesthetic is a blend of natural elements and mathematical precision, creating a visually dynamic and muscular shape that appears different from various viewing angles. It is described as a contemporary coffee table design that also pays homage to mid-century modern aesthetics.
Bamboo is highlighted as a strong, flexible, beautiful, and renewable material. It grows without the need for fertilizers and reaches maturity for harvesting within three years, making it an environmentally sustainable wood option. The 'LOCK' coffee table features a bamboo base and an 8 mm clear tempered glass top. Its dimensions are 70 cm (27.6 inches) in length and width, 50 cm (19.6 inches) in height, with a diameter of 80 cm (31.5 inches). The table is finished with hard-oil and comes in caramel and natural bamboo colors. It weighs 19 kg (41.8 lbs).
