See How Sophia Bush Maximized Her Storage, Without Walk-In Closets
Contractor Orie Prince, interior designer Jake Arnold, and Sophia Bush collaborated with The Container Store to optimize storage in Bush’s 1,800-square-foot Hollywood Hills bungalow. The primary challenge was integrating ample storage solutions into the home’s midcentury modern aesthetic, characterized by its 1950s butterfly roof and wood-beam ceilings. Instead of traditional walk-in closets, the team opted for custom linear closet walls, aligning with midcentury design principles that favored walnut built-ins, creating what Arnold described as "a full furniture piece" rather than just a closet.
In the master bedroom, the custom closet system extends along an entire wall, parallel to the bed. This design choice was made to avoid awkward configurations that a walk-in closet would have presented given the wall's length. The system employs The Container Store’s Laren system, segmented into six distinct areas. These sections are tailored to specific storage needs, including tall hanging spaces for dresses, shorter areas for blouses and bottoms, and shelves for shoes, handbags, and accessories. Additionally, tray inserts within drawers provide specialized compartments for jewelry, sunglasses, and smaller personal items. This meticulous organization ensures that the closet is highly functional while also maintaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance, whether open or closed. Prince noted that Bush's extensive fashion collection is displayed as art within this organized setup.
For the guest bedroom, the Avera system was implemented, designed to provide a welcoming and functional experience for visitors. This system includes a variety of storage options, such as drawers for lingerie, cubes for accessories, shelves for handbags, angled shelves for shoes, and rods for both long- and short-hanging clothes. The intent was to allow guests to unpack and settle in comfortably. The office space was also customized to support Bush’s diverse career activities. Walls were covered with corkboard to serve as a versatile surface for art, mood boards, and important notes. The Elfa Décor system, featuring walnut shelves, mesh drawers, and Bigso's Stockholm Paper Drawers, was utilized to organize scripts, podcast materials, photography equipment, and film, ensuring that all aspects of Bush's professional life are neatly accommodated. This comprehensive approach to custom storage across different rooms highlights the versatility and personalized nature of the solutions provided by The Container Store.
