5 Hand-Crafted Lighting Fixtures by Sun Valley Bronze
Sun Valley Bronze, a family-owned brand established in 1992, has cemented its position as a prominent provider of luxury bronze products, including door hardware, home accessories, furniture, and plumbing fixtures. The company distinguishes itself through its commitment to handcrafted manufacturing, producing its entire collection in the United States. A hallmark of their products is the distinctive weathered appearance, achieved through the meticulous hand-application of non-toxic patinas that induce oxidation in copper and other alloys. This process ensures consistent, high-quality castings from art-grade bronze, giving each piece a unique and authentic finish.
In 2015, Sun Valley Bronze's innovative Solid Barn Door Hardware received the "Best in 10" accolade from Interior Design magazine in the architectural and building product category, a testament to their dedication to both design and technological advancement. Building on this success, the company has ventured into the lighting sector, introducing a collection of elegant fixtures that uphold their core values of handicraft and innovation. This inaugural lighting collection features a diverse range of products, including pendants, sconces, and floor lamps. These pieces are the result of collaborations with notable industry figures, such as Interior Design Hall of Fame member Tom Kundig, who designed the Pulley Pendant, and Brooklyn-based design studio Token NYC, responsible for the handmade glass components of the Fresnel Pendant.
Each lighting fixture is offered in a selection of ten solid bronze and two brass finishes, providing a wide array of aesthetic choices to suit various interior designs. Additionally, certain models are available in raw steel, offering a more industrial or minimalist look. Sun Valley Bronze is set to expand its lighting portfolio further, with more new fixtures scheduled for release in the upcoming fall season. The article highlights five specific offerings from their current collection, providing a glimpse into the brand's diverse and artisanal approach to lighting design.
These five featured fixtures showcase the brand's versatility and commitment to quality. The Hudson Pendant, available in a new Polished Silicon Bronze finish, can be specified with either clear or frosted glass and offers multiple color cord options, including a version with a distinctive Center Ring in a W1 White Bronze finish. The Fresnel Pendant stands out with its solid bronze castings complemented by the exquisite handmade glass crafted by Token NYC. The Olson Sconce, presented in a solid cast bronze finish, allows for customization with a rolled-edge fabric shade available in various custom colors. Designed by Joshua Commons, the Otto Floor Lamp provides material choices of cast bronze, brass, or steel, alongside custom shades and cord colors. Finally, the Pulley Pendant, a modern interpretation of a classic design, operates on a smooth pulley system counterbalanced by a weight. This fixture, shown in Raw Steel and also available in S1 Brushed Silicon Bronze, was developed in collaboration with Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig Architects, emphasizing the blend of functionality and sophisticated design. Each piece reflects Sun Valley Bronze's dedication to creating handcrafted, high-quality lighting solutions that blend traditional techniques with contemporary design sensibilities.
