Types of ceiling boards designs in Kenya with their prices

Ceiling patterns and designs significantly influence a house's interior aesthetic. This guide explores various ceiling board designs available in the Kenyan market, detailing their characteristics and approximate costs. The selection of a ceiling board typically depends on factors such as budget, desired class, durability, and overall aesthetics. The article includes insights from Collins Vincent, an architect and interior designer at Colourful Interiors, who offers advice on achieving stylish interiors economically. Eight distinct types of ceiling boards are discussed. The first two are wood-based: Mahogany ceiling tile and groove (TnG) and Cypress ceiling tile and groove (TnG). Mahogany TnG, a traditional yet popular choice, is often seen in houses and boardrooms and costs approximately Ksh. 4,800 per square meter. Cypress TnG, made from cypress wood panels, offers elegance but is less strong than mahogany, with an installation cost of about Ksh. 3,500 per square meter. Next, the article covers PVC ceiling boards. PVC ceiling light gauge, a soft board option, is cheaper and easier to install, coming in various shades and designs. A bundle of light gauge PVC costs Ksh. 2,500. PVC ceiling heavy gauge is a budget-friendly plastic alternative, mostly imported from China. It is water-resistant and good-looking but can be prone to falling off due to roof heat and wind. A single bundle, covering about 11 square meters, costs Ksh. 5,000. Chipboard ceiling, available in flowered and plain designs, is presented as an older but versatile option. It can be used in various styles, including round or ceiling-mounted configurations. Installation, including supply and fix, is about Ksh. 1,500 per square meter, suitable for any house design. The final three types are gypsum-based designs. Gypsum ceiling coffered design creates sunken panels that add architectural detail to a room, made by combining mouldings and gypsum. These designs are popular and can cost approximately Ksh. 3,500 per square meter. Gypsum ceiling plain design offers a simple, stylish look that can resemble concrete ceilings. It is water-resistant, durable, reusable, and sound-absorbing, costing around Ksh. 2,000 per square meter. Finally, Gypsum ceiling design bulkhead is a modern option, slightly more expensive due to the materials and intricate crafting. It often incorporates indirect and downlighting, with costs around Ksh. 2,800 per square meter, though prices can vary. Collins Vincent emphasizes that ceilings play a crucial role in setting a room's mood and character, advising homeowners to prioritize simplicity, elegant lighting, and appropriate paint colors. He recommends gypsum boards for those on a budget due to their customization options and types (moisture, normal, fire-resistant), and suggests combining PVC or TnG with gypsum for a premium look. Vincent also notes increasing experimentation in interior design among Kenyans, with trends like textured paint finishes, 3D murals, wallpaper, minimalistic gypsum designs, and blended gypsum and PVC laminate finishes defining modern Kenyan homes. #CeilingDesigns #HomeInteriors #KenyanArchitecture #BuildingMaterials #InteriorDesignTrends #GypsumCeilings #PVCCeilings #WoodenCeilings #HomeRenovation #CeilingDesigns #HomeInteriors #KenyanArchitecture #BuildingMaterials #InteriorDesignTrends #GypsumCeilings #PVCCeilings #WoodenCeilings #HomeRenovation
