10 Kitchen Design Trends Going Out Of Style In 2025

The article outlines ten kitchen design trends that are predicted to become outdated in 2025, according to expert interior designers Ryan Saghian, Sally O'Connor, and Sherry Givili, and Lindsey Calhoun. These insights are crucial for homeowners planning renovations or preparing to sell their homes, as updating a kitchen requires careful consideration to ensure a good return on investment and avoid quickly dated aesthetics. Open shelving, a trend that gained popularity for its charming and open aesthetic, is now on the decline due to practical issues such as dust accumulation and the challenge of maintaining a tidy and functional appearance. While a few decorative open shelves may still be incorporated, the preference is shifting towards enclosed cabinetry for a more organized look. All-white kitchens, characterized by white cabinets, tiles, floors, and countertops, are also losing favor after a decade of dominance. Designers report a growing client demand for warmer tones, mixed materials, and textured finishes to add personality and avoid a stark ambiance. Homeowners with all-white kitchens are encouraged to introduce color through paint or by replacing white fixtures. Smart kitchen technology, particularly appliances with oversized built-in tablets, is another trend diminishing in appeal. Despite offering convenience, these appliances often detract from the kitchen's aesthetic. The focus is now on timeless, high-quality fixtures that prioritize function over transient technological gadgets. Stainless steel appliances, while seemingly timeless, are being replaced by matte and more tactile surfaces that offer a unique and inviting feel. Panel appliances are suggested as an alternative, despite being a more expensive option. Oven ranges with built-in stovetops are also seeing a decline, with a growing number of customers opting for separate ovens and cooktops. This shift is partly driven by urban gas bans on new construction, leading to an increase in energy-efficient and safer induction and electric cooktops. Open-plan kitchens, once highly sought after, are decreasing in popularity. A new trend, the 'dirty kitchen,' redefines butler's pantries as thoughtfully designed spaces to enhance cleanliness and efficiency, allowing the main kitchen to remain clutter-free. This indicates a preference for more segregated and specialized kitchen areas. Backsplashes are moving away from simple, countertop-matching designs to bolder, more exotic natural materials. Marble replicas in white and gray are being replaced by deeper reds and earthy greens, with natural materials valued for their unique beauty and character that improve with age. The industrial look, popular with concrete countertops and exposed elements, is giving way to softer, more organic textures like reclaimed wood and natural stone. This involves replacing metal kitchen stools and harsh metal light fixtures with more natural alternatives. Matte black hardware and fixtures, which became oversaturated due to widespread adoption by developers and DIYers, are also on their way out. Warmer finishes such as brass, copper, and brushed nickel are now preferred, offering a more distinctive and less common aesthetic. Finally, modern farmhouse kitchens, with elements like shiplap and barn-style doors, are becoming obsolete, especially outside actual farm settings. The trend is shifting towards modern rustic or transitional styles with refined details. Homeowners looking to update their farmhouse kitchens can make significant changes by replacing barn doors with pocket doors, updating light fixtures, painting cabinets, and changing stools, avoiding a complete overhaul or the need for livestock to justify the style. #KitchenDesign #HomeRenovation #InteriorDesignTrends #OutdatedTrends #KitchenRemodel #HomeImprovement #ResidentialRealEstate #KitchenDesign #HomeRenovation #InteriorDesignTrends #OutdatedTrends #KitchenRemodel #HomeImprovement #ResidentialRealEstate
