15 Design Products for Improving Indoor Air Quality at Home

The increasing awareness of indoor air quality has led to a greater demand for products that support healthier living environments. This article highlights 15 design products, ranging from furniture to building materials, that come with certifications aimed at improving indoor air quality in both residential and commercial settings. These certifications streamline the selection process for interior designers, enabling them to quickly identify products with low volatile organic compound (VOC) levels and other beneficial attributes. Key certifications mentioned include GREENGUARD, FloorScore, Green Wise, and Climate Neutral Certification. GREENGUARD Gold, for instance, ensures products meet stringent chemical emissions standards, while FloorScore applies specifically to flooring. The Climate Neutral Certification, which involves a three-part plan for carbon reduction, signifies a commitment to both air quality and environmental sustainability. Backdrop, a paint and wallcoverings company, exemplifies this by offering products certified for low VOCs and adherence to Climate Neutral’s standards. The featured products demonstrate a diverse approach to improving indoor air quality. For upholstery, Room & Board's SUMNER LAGOON uses durable upcycled polypropylene yarn certified GREENGUARD Gold. Backdrop's paints and wallpapers are Green Wise and GREENGUARD Gold certified, respectively, alongside Climate Neutral certification for their paints. MandiCasa's YOTA cabinets are CARB2-certified, ensuring low formaldehyde emissions. Nanimarquina’s RE-RUG collection, made from recycled wool, is Climate Neutral–certified, addressing both material reuse and carbon footprint. Textiles also play a significant role. Nassimi’s SUPREEN fabric is stain- and water-resistant without PFAs and is Healthier Hospitals Initiative–compliant. Mayer Fabrics' FANFARE is made from 100 percent recycled postconsumer polyester, treated with Crypton, and GREENGUARD Gold certified. For insulation, CertainTeed’s INSULPURE is a fiberglass building insulation made with recycled content, rated GREENGUARD Gold, and formaldehyde-free. Innovative furniture designs contribute as well. Cassina’s BIO-MBO upholstered headboard, developed with Milan Polytechnic, features a patented air-filtering fabric. Leland’s GEMMA TABLE collection is SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certified for air quality. Building materials such as Matter Surfaces' PURLINE commercial flooring, a bio-based polyurethane, is Cradle to Cradle Silver, GREENGUARD Gold, and Declare LBC–compliant. Durasein’s LIGHT HAZE solid surfacing is low-VOC, recyclable, and GREENGUARD Gold certified. Cambria’s quartz surfaces are Living Building Challenge–compliant, carry the Declare label and Health Product Declaration, and are GREENGUARD Gold certified. Even window coverings and wallcoverings are addressed. VERDI offers natural artisan sheers woven from plant fibers to reduce VOC risks. Wallquest DuPont Wallcovering, with its Tedlar coating, provides an easy-to-clean and protective surface. Finally, air purification devices like Rabbit Air A3, certified Asthma and Allergy Friendly, utilize HEPA filters and a six-stage filtration system to combat VOCs, serving as a direct solution to improve indoor air quality over a substantial area. #IndoorAirQuality #ProductCertifications #SustainableDesign #VOCReduction #GreenBuildingMaterials #HealthyHomes #EnvironmentalCertifications #DesignProducts #IndoorAirQuality #ProductCertifications #SustainableDesign #VOCReduction #GreenBuildingMaterials #HealthyHomes #EnvironmentalCertifications #DesignProducts
