Style Notes: Kylie Jenner’s Faulty Lip Kits; Vogue to Launch Furniture Line
Kylie Jenner's makeup brand, Kylie Cosmetics, faced criticism from customers and makeup artist Jeffree Star regarding faulty brushes in her lip kits. Numerous individuals reported receiving lip kits with splayed bristles, leading to public complaints on social media platforms like Twitter. In response to the widespread dissatisfaction, Kylie Cosmetics announced that all customers who purchased a lip kit on April 1 would receive new brushes. Jenner personally apologized to Jeffree Star via her personal account for the defective products.
Vogue magazine is expanding its brand into the home furnishings sector by launching a new furniture collection. This initiative is a collaboration between Conde Nast, the publisher of Vogue, and Doya, a high-end furniture company. The partnership aims to introduce a 30-piece line of home goods, expected to be released later in the current year. This move diversifies Vogue's offerings beyond fashion and lifestyle editorial content, venturing into interior design and home decoration.
ShopStyle, a prominent fashion search engine that also manages the affiliate link system RewardStyle, has introduced a new feature designed to help style bloggers and influencers monetize their Instagram content. This innovation allows users to include a specific link in their Instagram bios, which then redirects followers to a landing page. This landing page will display their Instagram photos, alongside shoppable links to the products featured in those images. Influencers will earn a commission from sales generated through these links. The new program also offers a widget for seamless integration into blogs. This method provides a more streamlined approach for monetizing Instagram feeds compared to existing solutions like LiketoKnow. It, which relies on emailing shoppable links to users who 'like' photos, particularly given Instagram's policy against direct third-party links within posts.
Nordstrom, a major retail company, announced a restructuring plan that includes significant job cuts. The company's new business model prioritizes adapting to evolving customer expectations, with a particular focus on enhancing its digital initiatives and e-commerce experience. As part of this strategic shift, Nordstrom anticipates eliminating between 350 and 400 positions, primarily affecting corporate center and regional support teams. These layoffs are projected to result in cost savings of approximately $60 million in 2016.
Fame & Partners, an Australian retailer catering to millennial consumers, successfully completed a Series A fundraising round, securing $7.6 million. Following this capital injection, the company declared its intention to concentrate more heavily on the U.S. market, which currently accounts for nearly 70 percent of its total business. To facilitate this strategic expansion, Fame & Partners plans to relocate its headquarters from Sydney to a new 9,500 square-foot office in the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles. Initially, New York was considered for the new headquarters, but the team ultimately decided on Los Angeles due to more favorable time differences with Australia, where their customer service operations will remain.
