Eight statement sofas that can liven up any space
This article highlights eight distinct and visually striking sofas featured on Dezeen Showroom, presenting them as pieces that can significantly impact interior design. The selection includes designs from various internationally recognized brands, manufacturers, and designers, each offering unique aesthetics and functional attributes.
The Cloverleaf sofa, originally designed in 1969 by Verner Panton and rereleased by Verpan, is presented in both indoor and outdoor versions. Its design is characterized by an undulating, curvaceous form inspired by a clover leaf, and it consists of modular segments that allow for flexible configurations to suit different spaces and preferences.
Another featured design is the Mochi seating by Alexander Lotersztain for the Australian brand Derlot. This sofa, drawing inspiration from the Japanese rice cake, aims to foster conversation and interaction in both residential and commercial settings. It is available with or without a backrest, providing versatility in its application.
The Shaal sofa, created by Doshi Levien for Arper, offers a modular system comprising six segments. These segments can be arranged in various angular and linear layouts. Each module combines a rigid exterior frame with plush, cushioned seats, armrests, and backrests designed to provide comfort and envelop the user.
For outdoor environments, the Songololo outdoor sofa by Haldane Martin for Haldane is highlighted. This South African-designed piece features segmented seating that users can contort to their liking. It is constructed from weather-resistant sectional pieces, each including a curved seat and a single aluminum leg.
Verpan has also rereleased Verner Panton's classic Easy sofa and pouf, originally from 1964. These pieces are notable for their stacked, rounded disc-like shapes, with the sofa incorporating four U-shaped backrests that enable users to sit facing outwards, promoting varied interaction.
The Gio sofa by Luca Erba for Hessentia is described as comprising three distinct, bulbous volumes for the seat, back, and armrests. It offers customization options for upholstery fabric and is available in a conventional straight linear form or a V-shaped version that slightly kinks at the center.
Clap Studio designed the Worm bench for Spanish furniture brand Missana, taking inspiration from the segmented appearance of millipedes. This bench is composed of three modules—an end module, a straight module, and a curved module—all featuring rounded seats and small legs, allowing them to adapt to diverse spaces and user needs.
Finally, the BOB 52 sofa module by Thomas Bernstrand and Stefan Borselius for Blå Station is presented as a wider unit for the brand's modular sofa system. This module can function as a standalone chair or be integrated with other modules to create an infinite array of configurations, emphasizing its adaptability and contemporary design.
