Take a Trip Out West with Ralph Lauren’s Latest Home Collection

Ralph Lauren unveiled his new Canyon Road home collection at the recent Milan Design Week, continuing his tradition of showcasing his diverse home aesthetics alongside new designs. The collection is a tribute to the American West, featuring ranch-inspired motifs and drawing heavily on traditional materials and craftsmanship. Key pieces include a large dining table and chairs, wing-backed armchairs, an antler chandelier crafted from naturally shed antlers, and an end table designed to resemble a vintage steamer trunk with saddle-leather details. A significant aspect of the Canyon Road collection is its collaboration with seventh-generation Navajo Nation weavers, Naiomi and Tyler Glasses, who are also Ralph Lauren Home Artists in Residence. This marks the second collaboration with Naiomi Glasses, and this time she brought her brother, Tyler, into the project. Together with Ralph Lauren, they developed fabrics, floor coverings, bed linens, and pewter entertaining accessories like trays, napkin rings, and salt-and-pepper shakers. Ralph Lauren expressed his long-standing appreciation for the American West, including its landscapes, heritage, and the Indigenous communities who have preserved its traditions for centuries. He emphasized the importance of working with artisans who practice these traditions to ensure an authentic representation of the West, thereby sharing their stories globally. The Glasses siblings were taught weaving by their grandmother, and their designs incorporate traditional Navajo motifs and color palettes, including neutral, red, black, and indigo tones. Notable motifs used in the collection include horizontal diamonds and four-directional crosses, which symbolize the four cardinal directions of the Earth. The Spider Woman crosses, featured on a blanket, throw pillow, and entertaining pieces, are particularly significant, referencing the Navajo creator and protector of weaving traditions. Another pattern, Peppy’s Blanket, is named after a family horse from the Glasses ranch and includes butterfly diamonds inspired by an original saddle blanket by Tyler Glasses. Naiomi Glasses shared her pride in preserving her family's seven-generation weaving craft and the inspiration she finds in adapting these traditions in new ways. She described the opportunity to share her artistic vision and cultural heritage with a global audience as a dream come true.
