Profile: Fabian and Liza Laserow Berglund, Nordic Knots

Fabian and Liza Laserow Berglund, along with Fabian’s brother Felix, co-founded Nordic Knots in 2016, a Stockholm-based rug and textile company. The inspiration for Nordic Knots came from their own struggle to find appealing and trustworthy rug brands while furnishing their apartment. They identified a significant gap in the market for high-quality, tastefully designed rugs that could complement sophisticated furniture. Fabian serves as the CEO and brand director, while Liza leads the creative direction of the company. Before launching Nordic Knots, the couple resided in New York, where Liza worked in interiors and Swedish antiques, and Fabian in advertising. This blend of expertise proved instrumental in shaping Nordic Knots’ brand identity and marketing strategies. Their campaigns often feature rugs in real home settings, meticulously staged to create a specific atmosphere. For instance, a plush wool walnut rug might be showcased alongside a classic Le Bambole sofa by Mario Bellini, or a graphic flatweave carpet dialoguing with modernist armchairs by Alvar Aalto. Liza emphasizes their goal of conveying an aspirational atmosphere, envisioning a 'perfect world' through their designs, whether it's a dream home in New York, Paris, or by the coast. Nordic Knots has since expanded its product range to include a diverse selection of rugs, such as wool, jute, shaggy styles, and practical flatweaves, available in graphic patterns, solid colors, and a spectrum of neutral to bold tones. They also engage in collaborations with designers, including Giancarlo Valle, and have recently ventured into sheer curtains. The company's rugs are produced in India, while other textiles are manufactured between Milan and Lake Como. For their latest collections, Nordic Knots is introducing new colorways to their popular Grand collection of wool, with the pale-yellow 'Butter' being a notable addition, and further expanding their sheer curtain offerings. Liza and Fabian draw inspiration from their travels to design hubs like Milan and Paris, as well as from design movements such as Swedish Grace and Bauhaus. Liza also highlights Sweden's rich heritage in weaving and textiles, traditionally used for insulation in cold climates. They aim to combine this functionality with aesthetic beauty, ensuring uncompromising quality and durability so that their products can withstand everyday wear and tear. Fabian succinctly states their philosophy: 'Everyone needs a rug.' #NordicKnots #RugDesign #TextileCompany #HomeFurnishings #InteriorDesign #SwedishDesign #ScandinavianStyle #DesignEntrepreneurs #NordicKnots #RugDesign #TextileCompany #HomeFurnishings #InteriorDesign #SwedishDesign #ScandinavianStyle #DesignEntrepreneurs
