Interior expert reveals the common TV placement mistakes you're probably making

This article highlights five common mistakes people make when placing their televisions and offers expert advice from interior designer Zara O’Hare of Land of Rugs to avoid these pitfalls, ensuring an optimal viewing experience and protecting the TV's longevity. The discussion begins by emphasizing that even with high-quality televisions, incorrect placement can significantly detract from viewing pleasure and potentially cause discomfort or damage. The first mistake addressed is mounting the TV too high on the wall. O'Hare advises that the center of the TV screen should ideally be at eye level when seated, comparing an overly high TV to sitting in the front row of a cinema, which causes neck strain. She stresses the importance of considering optimal viewing angles for picture quality and suggests measuring eye level before installing a TV wall mount. The second common error is placing the TV at an inappropriate distance from the seating area. Whether too close or too far, this can lead to eye strain and diminish enjoyment. The article provides recommended viewing distances for various 4K TV sizes, ranging from 3 feet for a 43-inch TV to 5 feet for an 85-inch TV. It also suggests using a TV distance calculator to find the ideal placement based on personal preferences and screen size. Thirdly, positioning a TV in direct sunlight is identified as problematic. Direct sunlight causes screen glare, which hinders viewing, and prolonged exposure can damage the TV's internal components. The expert recommends repositioning the TV to a shaded area, especially if windows are open or the TV is used outdoors. Another frequent mistake involves placing the TV in front of or too close to a wireless router. This can significantly weaken the Wi-Fi signal, interrupting streaming services and affecting overall internet performance. The article recommends moving the router or, if that's not feasible, relocating the TV to improve signal strength. Investing in a high-quality Wi-Fi router is also suggested for better performance and range. Finally, placing a TV directly above a fireplace or mantel is highlighted as a major mistake. While seemingly convenient for saving space, the heat and smoke generated by a fireplace can severely damage the TV's electronics, reducing its lifespan. The expert advises keeping the TV well away from open fires. For those who cannot wall-mount, alternative placements such as stylish consoles, bookcases, or TV wall units are recommended to ensure safety and functionality. #TVPlacement #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #SmartHome #ViewingExperience #WiFISignal #TVMounting #HomeEntertainment #TVPlacement #HomeDecor #InteriorDesign #SmartHome #ViewingExperience #WiFISignal #TVMounting #HomeEntertainment
