15 Trends That'll Be "In" This Fall—and 5 That'll Be "Out"

This article forecasts the dominant home design trends for fall and winter 2017, highlighting both emerging styles and those that are receding from popularity. It emphasizes that while trends offer inspiration, personal preference should guide design choices. The article identifies five trends that are on their way out. First, all-white and all-gray interiors are giving way to warmer, richer color palettes including brown, black, green, and blush, as homeowners seek more vibrant living spaces. Second, the pervasive use of marble is becoming less fashionable, although timeless marble countertops remain classic. The current shift is towards earthier materials like wood, clay, and metals with worn finishes. Third, rose gold and overly shiny copper home accessories, which have saturated the market, are now considered dated, while authentic copper fixtures and aged brass are gaining favor. Fourth, the era of buying generic, matching furniture sets is ending. The new trend is to mix and match pieces to create a unique and personalized aesthetic, moving away from the dominance of mid-century modern styles. Lastly, boring, all-white bedding is being replaced by more interesting, patterned, and colorful options, reflecting a desire to make bedrooms more engaging and personalized. Conversely, the article presents ten trends expected to be popular in the upcoming seasons. Dark green is highlighted as a significant color trend, particularly for kitchen cabinets, often combined with natural wood, leather, and brass accents for a cozy feel. Relaxing retreats are gaining importance, with a focus on creating tech-free sanctuaries within homes, such as cozy reading nooks or bedrooms with soft canopies. Velvet fabric is making a comeback, offering a luxurious and tactile element to interiors, often paired with rough natural textures or smooth metals. Woven textures, including baskets and wicker, are appreciated for the depth and warmth they bring, especially during colder months. Blush pink, a softer evolution of millennial pink, is resurfacing in home accents, glassware, pillows, and planters. Faux finishes, such as removable wallpaper, floor decals, stick-on subway tiles, and faux wood beams, are becoming popular for offering affordable and easy home updates. Brass is emerging as the new preferred metal finish, notably incorporated into furniture designs. Quilts are experiencing a resurgence, providing a handmade, homey feel to bedrooms as an alternative to duvets. Dark paint colors, including various shades of black and chocolate brown, are favored for creating dramatic and luxurious interiors. Finally, interesting bedding, featuring patterns and monograms, along with custom upholstered headboards, is transforming bedrooms into more distinctive spaces. Terra cotta tiles are also noted for adding warmth and character, and statement ceilings, incorporating textured wallpaper, tin tiles, shiplap, or bold paint colors, are transforming the often-overlooked 'fifth wall'. Extending the outdoor season with deep seating patio sets, fire pits, and outdoor heaters, complemented by fall-themed decor, is another key trend for creating inviting exterior spaces. #HomeDesign #DecoratingIdeas #FallTrends #WinterTrends #InteriorDesign #ColorPalettes #MaterialTrends #FurnitureTrends #HomeDesign #DecoratingIdeas #FallTrends #WinterTrends #InteriorDesign #ColorPalettes #MaterialTrends #FurnitureTrends
