Easily DIY A Trendy Coffee Table With A Home Depot Wood Round And Planter

Home Depot offers a Pine Edge Glued wood round for approximately $60 and a Round White Plastic Planter for about $55. The wood round comes with a primed surface, facilitating easy customization with various stains to match any living room decor. To replicate this project, several materials are needed, including beige spray paint, wood stain, construction adhesive, a paintbrush, a measuring tape, and paper towels. Jessica Lynn specifically utilized Rust-Oleum Stone Spray Paint for texture and Rust-Oleum Smokey Beige Spray Paint for pigment, both available at Home Depot. For the wood round, she chose Varathane in Early American wood stain, also found at Home Depot. To begin the assembly, the planter should be spray-painted with the stone textured spray paint and allowed to dry. This first coat will impart a bumpy texture rather than intense color. After drying, a layer of smokey beige paint is applied for color, followed by another coat of the stone spray after the beige paint dries. Concurrently, the wood round is stained. A small amount of wood stain is applied and immediately wiped down with a towel to achieve a lighter shade. Both sides of the wood round are stained, and both the planter and wood round are left to dry completely overnight. The final step involves attaching the planter to the wood round. Construction adhesive is applied around the opening of the planter, which is then inverted and carefully placed onto the wood surface. A measuring tape is used to ensure the planter is perfectly centered before the adhesive sets. Any excess adhesive around the edges is promptly wiped away with a damp towel. Once assembled, the new coffee table can be decorated to complement the living space. DIY projects offer an excellent opportunity to create affordable and personalized home decor. For instance, the two-tone spray paint technique used for the planter base can be modified; if a sleek, smooth finish is preferred, only the smokey beige paint can be used. The color of the spray paint can also be altered to black or gray for a neutral look, or a pre-colored planter can be purchased to bypass painting entirely. For the wood stain, adjusting the drying time before wiping can achieve a darker, richer finish for those desiring a moodier aesthetic.
