3 Ideas We’re Stealing From Hannah Bronfman’s Freshly Streamlined Pantry
DJ, author, and wellness influencer Hannah Bronfman recently enlisted the help of professional organizer Ashley La Fond, founder of Of Space + Mind, to streamline her pantry in her Hamptons, New York, retreat. Bronfman's husband, Brendan Fallis, showcased the organized space in a YouTube home tour. La Fond's primary challenge was incorporating Bronfman's preference for glass jars into a functional and aesthetically pleasing arrangement for her extensive collection of cooking staples, oils, spices, and snacks.
La Fond shared three key strategies that contributed to the pantry's successful transformation. The first tip involves arranging items by height to enhance both appearance and functionality. Taller jars are placed at the back for staples like flour and sugar, medium-sized canisters occupy the middle row for grains and pasta, and smaller containers for supplements, nuts, and seeds are positioned at the front. This systematic arrangement ensures that all items are visible and easily accessible, allowing Bronfman to quickly identify what she has in each category.
The second strategy focuses on designating specific zones within the pantry using different types of containers. La Fond advises separating items based on their intended use and frequency of access. For instance, frequently used items are placed on lazy Susans on the middle shelves for easy reach. Duplicates and condiments are stored in acrylic bins on the top shelf, while canned goods and smoothie ingredients are organized in open metal baskets on the bottom shelf. This method optimizes space and ensures that related items are grouped together, improving efficiency in the kitchen.
The third and crucial tip is to decant items from their original packaging into glass jars. This practice significantly maximizes storage space within the pantry, as bulky packaging often takes up considerable room. Beyond space-saving, decanting also contributes to a more streamlined and visually appealing pantry display. La Fond's specific recommendation is to use stackable jars, which further enhances space efficiency. An additional benefit of decanting is that it allows individuals to clearly see their inventory, which can help reduce food waste by making it easier to track what is on hand.
