This Montana Kitchen Had One Very Literal Champagne Problem

Brandi Russell, the head of sales and marketing at Casetta, undertook a significant kitchen renovation at Grover’s Lodge, her home in Missoula, Montana, named after her late father. The original kitchen, described as stale and sad, lacked an island and felt more like a financial firm's office than a home kitchen. Russell envisioned the kitchen as the heart of the house, a central gathering place for friends and family, and drew inspiration from Pinterest for her renovation ideas. A key feature Russell desired was a dedicated beverage sink, specifically a "bubbly sink" capable of chilling champagne. This seemingly simple idea presented unique challenges, which she playfully referred to as "champagne problems." The primary hurdle was finding a stonemason willing and capable of executing this specialized design. After a diligent search, she successfully partnered with a stonemason who was open to innovative ideas. Russell also convinced the stonemason to use soapstone for the sink, a nonporous material, instead of marble, which she believed was a better fit for the function and aesthetic she envisioned. The renovated kitchen island became the focal point and control center of the space. It was meticulously designed to be highly functional, incorporating the main sink, a dishwasher, integrated trash bins, ample storage, and seating for guests. The standout feature, however, was the narrow beverage station within the island, specifically designed to hold up to six bottles on ice. This bespoke addition fulfilled Russell's initial vision for a unique and practical entertaining space. Upon the completion of the renovation, the champagne sink quickly became a conversation starter and the highlight of her housewarming party, which hosted friends and family from ten different states. Despite the initial concept of a champagne sink, Russell noted that it is versatile enough to accommodate various beverages, including beer, wine, and soda. Ironically, Russell revealed that she doesn't even drink champagne, highlighting the humor and personal touch behind her design choice.
