Meet Jason Brammer
Jason Brammer, an artist specializing in airbrushing and traditional brush painting, shares insights into his creative journey and the most meaningful projects he has undertaken. His artistic foundation was built working alongside his mother, hand-painting children's rooms for interior designers and private clients, which sparked his passion for transforming spaces through art. His high school art teacher, Glenn Litts, introduced him to airbrushing, a technique he has mastered and continues to refine through ongoing mentorship from Litts.
Brammer's work encompasses a wide range of creations, including interior and exterior murals of various scales, original fine art pieces like paintings, drawings, and mixed media works, and custom-painted clothing. A significant aspect of his craft is the creation of public murals, which he believes make art accessible to everyone and contribute to a sense of identity and pride within communities. He emphasizes the lasting connections forged between people and their environment through his art.
Among his most cherished projects is the design and painting of artwork on several drum kits for Jimmy Chamberlin of The Smashing Pumpkins. This collaboration held deep personal significance for Brammer, as the band's music had profoundly influenced him since his youth. The process involved interpreting Chamberlin's artistic vision and translating it into dynamic visuals for four drum kits, a custom cymbal cabinet, and an airbrushed stage vest. This experience represented a full-circle moment, merging his artistic passion with a personal connection to influential music.
Brammer also recounts a story of resilience involving an outdoor mural commissioned by the Shedd Aquarium in 2018 for their 'Underwater Beauty' show. This mural, located at a prominent intersection in Logan Square, Chicago, was unfortunately vandalized with blue paint. Rather than seeing this as a setback, Brammer seized the opportunity to repair and expand the mural. He added new elements, including a nine-foot shark and a giant octopus, demonstrating how adaptability and persistence can transform challenges into opportunities for growth and improvement. This experience reinforced his belief in thriving in the artistic field through innovative problem-solving.
For Brammer, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the immediate and enthusiastic feedback he receives while working on public murals. The direct expressions of appreciation from passersby—such as honks, thumbs-ups, and shouts of approval—provide positive affirmation that fuels his passion. He finds it uniquely fulfilling to know that his art brings joy to people in real-time.
