Bring Timeless Charm to Your Home with the Brownstone Boys' Vintage Wallpaper Collection
The social media renovation duo, Jordan Slocum and Barry Bordelon, known as the Brownstone Boys, have collaborated with WallPops to introduce a new collection of peel-and-stick wallpapers. This collection, inspired by New York City's architectural heritage and the duo's personal nostalgia, aims to infuse a 'vintage meets modern day' aesthetic into contemporary homes. The partnership builds on the Brownstone Boys' reputation for revitalizing vintage brownstones, bringing their distinctive design philosophy to a broader audience.
The collection comprises four distinct patterns available in twelve colorways, each designed to narrate a visual story. A core inspiration for the line stems from the various homes the Brownstone Boys restore and the vibrant urban environment of New York City that continuously fuels their creativity. This approach ensures that each design carries a piece of the city's essence and their personal connection to it.
One prominent design in the collection is the Toile de New York, a reinterpretation of the classic toile print, a staple in the duo's previous client projects. This hand-drawn pattern is offered in three shades: graphite (grey-hued), a rusty brick, and classic navy. The Toile de New York print intricately features iconic city landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Domino Sugar sign, alongside more personal, sentimental elements like their favorite bodega cups. The designers consider this pattern a direct homage to their beloved city.
Another significant pattern, Brooklyn Delft, draws inspiration from traditional Delft tiles but incorporates distinct New York City motifs. This design showcases elements like brownstone stoops, pigeons, and the Washington Square Arch, giving it an unmistakable urban character. Barry Bordelon notes that both the Toile de New York and Brooklyn Delft Tile patterns are particularly effective for enlivening smaller interior spaces, such as bathrooms and entryways. For larger rooms, Barry suggests a design approach that involves integrating wainscoting or beadboard on the lower half of the wall, with the wallpaper applied to the upper half, to create visual balance and prevent the pattern from overwhelming the space. Conversely, for compact areas like mudrooms, he advocates for a complete drenching of the space with the pattern, allowing its full impact to be appreciated.
The collection also features Brownstone Blooms, a pattern that offers a contemporary twist on the damask style, blending delicate and structured elements. This design is rooted in a 19th-century print discovered during the duo’s renovation work, merging architectural forms with soft floral motifs. Available in four different hues, Brownstone Blooms is versatile enough to complement various interior design styles, ranging from Victorian and French country to organic bohemian aesthetics, signifying a bridge across different design eras. The final pattern, Townhouse Stripe, provides a more understated option. This classic stripe design incorporates subtle vine detailing interspersed between vertical lines of varying thicknesses, delivering a simple yet engaging look that adds warmth to a room. Barry explains that stripes are a frequent element in their projects, making their inclusion in the collection a natural choice.
The entire collection is available through WallPops, with each design presented in 20.5-inch by 18-foot peel-and-stick rolls. The peel-and-stick application makes these wallpapers an ideal solution for renters or individuals who frequently change their décor, offering an accessible way to introduce a sense of old-world charm with a modern sensibility into their living spaces. The individual wallpapers, such as the Toile de New York, Brooklyn Delft, Brownstone Blooms, and Townhouse Stripe, are detailed with their specific color options and pricing, highlighting the range and adaptability of the collection for different design preferences.
