Stefano Accorsi back to the Teatro della Pergola with Azul
Stefano Accorsi, the artistic director of the Fondazione Teatro della Toscana, is set to debut his new show, "Azul - Gioia, Furia, Fede y Eterno Amor," at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence. The play, written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, will run from April 5 to April 10. "Azul" is described as a theatrical experience that balances elements of dream and reality, focusing on themes of friendship, irony, fragility, passion, cheer, music, and colors.
The narrative centers on four friends living in a city deeply immersed in the passion of football. These characters grapple with their individual lives while collectively attempting to restore a lost sense of serenity by revisiting shared memories. Their common bond lies in an unwavering passion for their favorite football team and nostalgic recollections of their childhoods. The characters are portrayed as humble and down-to-earth, yet they undergo a transformative experience at the stadium on Sundays, where they are swept up in an intense fury.
Daniele Finzi Pasca's directorial style is characterized by its three-dimensional quality, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the world of the play rather than merely observing it. The stage features characters who are simultaneously real and dreamlike, embodying touching and humorous clown-like qualities that are universally recognizable. The performance explores a range of emotions, including joy, bitterness, and irony, with a strong emphasis on the desire to smile. The friends reminisce about shared victories, moments of ecstasy, defeats, and tragedies experienced over the years. Ultimately, "Azul" is a story about ordinary individuals whose enduring friendship provides mutual support in facing life's challenges, depicted through a passionate and moving embrace.
Finzi Pasca, reflecting on his work, states that he consistently tells stories featuring human, fragile, and dream-filled characters, constructing his theater by replicating the language of dreams. He recounts growing up in the theater world before transitioning to large-scale events, including monumental shows for Cirque du Soleil and Olympic Ceremonies. Despite these grand productions, he emphasizes that returning to the stage evokes a sense of coming home and reconnecting with his artistic roots.
In addition to the theatrical performance, Stefano Accorsi is scheduled to sign copies of his book, "Album Stefano Accorsi" (published by Gruppo Editoriale), at Feltrinelli Red in Piazza della Repubblica, Florence, on Wednesday, April 6, at 3 p.m. The book, edited by Malcom Pagani, chronicles Accorsi's career, and its proceeds are dedicated to supporting the family of Giulio Regeni in their pursuit of truth.
