Kindred Black gives sustainable skincare a new look

Kindred Black, a retail project focused on environmental sustainability, has launched a new line of skincare products called Slow Beauty. This collection aims to redefine sustainable skincare by emphasizing both the ingredients and the packaging. Founders Alice Wells and Jennifer Francis identified a gap in the market where natural and organic beauty products often came in excessive plastic packaging. Their initiative addresses this by offering an aesthetically pleasing and eco-conscious alternative. The core of the Slow Beauty line lies in its unique packaging: hand-blown glass vessels crafted by master artisans across the United States. This approach transforms beauty packaging into a form of art, moving away from conventional mass-produced containers. Wells and Francis ensure that the glassblowers are not subjected to factory-like conditions, allowing them significant creative freedom. Each production run is a limited edition, reflecting the painstaking manual labor involved and preserving the handmade quality of the products. The company often rotates products into different bottle designs to cater to collectors and manage demand without compromising the artisanal integrity. In addition to the distinctive packaging, Kindred Black's Slow Beauty formulations are meticulously crafted using clean, responsibly sourced, and all-natural ingredients. These ingredients are procured from small family-run farms and growers worldwide, highlighting a commitment to ethical sourcing and a return to traditional, nature-derived treatments. The founders are particularly interested in historical cosmetic practices, drawing inspiration from what people once harvested directly from the earth for beauty and therapeutic purposes. They believe that many contemporary problems stem from a disconnection from the land, advocating for a more mindful and slower way of living. The sourcing process for ingredients is rigorous and thoughtful. For example, the lavender used in their products comes from a female-owned farm in France that collaborates with a school for troubled youth. Their hinoki oil is sourced from a Japanese craftsman who distills oil from leftover wood originally intended for traditional cypress tubs. Argan and prickly pear oils are obtained from a women-owned and operated collective in Morocco. The brand even uses lilac and jasmine perfumes made by a woman who practices the ancient art of enfleurage, growing the flowers herself. The founders' research into cosmetic history has unveiled numerous surprising and sometimes unusual beauty practices from millennia past, such as wine infused with drowned lizards for aphrodisiacs or ox hair for thicker eyebrows. While they acknowledge these peculiar historical methods, they also note that many foundational ingredients from ancient times, like rosewater, olive oil, and neroli, remain effective and are still used in modern skincare today. Among Kindred Black’s offerings, the multipurpose Unicorn Oil and the Hypocrites shimmer powder, made from crushed mica, are highlighted as favorites. The brand also produces multi-purpose soap bars, handmade by Navajo farmers in Arizona using their own grown ingredients, further cementing their commitment to community and sustainable practices. Overall, Kindred Black's Slow Beauty line represents a comprehensive approach to sustainable skincare, integrating artistic packaging, ethically sourced natural ingredients, and a philosophy rooted in historical wisdom and mindful living. The brand emphasizes craftsmanship, community support, and environmental responsibility, offering products that are not only effective but also embody a deeper connection to nature and traditional artistry. #SustainableSkincare #EcoFriendlyPackaging #HandblownGlass #NaturalIngredients #EthicalSourcing #ArtisanalBeauty #CleanBeauty #SlowBeauty #KindredBlack #SustainableSkincare #EcoFriendlyPackaging #HandblownGlass #NaturalIngredients #EthicalSourcing #ArtisanalBeauty #CleanBeauty #SlowBeauty #KindredBlack
