Agnona, a prominent Italian brand, has joined this growing trend by introducing a collection of cashmere throw blankets and pillows. The brand, established in the mid-1950s, is renowned for its use of rich and luxurious fabrics. Initially, Agnona's primary function was to supply high-quality textiles to other leading fashion houses such as Dior, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent, and Valentino. This historical foundation in premium fabric production provides Agnona with a deep archive of designs and material expertise, including retro plaids, sleek dégradés, and camel hues, which inform its current home collection.
Simon Holloway, Agnona's creative director, leverages the brand's extensive archives to design these extravagant home pieces. He emphasizes that the aesthetic draws directly from Agnona's heritage, rather than reinterpreting external traditional designs. Holloway highlights the impeccable taste of the textile designers from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, whose work serves as a foundational reference for the blankets. The brand releases new home designs twice a year, demonstrating a consistent commitment to this category.
There is a deliberate, though subtle, crossover between Agnona's ready-to-wear collections and its home designs. An example provided is a metallic knit wool dress in grey being reinterpreted into a grey alpaca check blanket, illustrating how design themes translate across product lines without being identical. The craftsmanship of these blankets, which range in price from $1,350 to $2,995, is meticulously executed. Holloway is not new to home decor; Agnona previously collaborated with Giorgetti on a furniture range, featuring Agnona textiles on armchairs, which were showcased in Harrods. He personally uses an alpaca blanket of his own design in his London home and believes the designs have universal appeal, suitable for homes worldwide, from Moscow to Aspen and Milan. He notes that Italians, in particular, approach bed dressing with seriousness. The versatility of Agnona's blankets extends beyond home use, with many fashionable customers wearing them as oversized scarves or capes, a trend Holloway has incorporated by designing capes from alpaca blankets.
