Three bathroom designs that get a peaceful feeling from shades of green

This article highlights three distinct bathroom designs that successfully incorporate various shades of green to create a tranquil and refreshing ambiance. Each design project, undertaken by different interior design firms, draws inspiration from nature while catering to the specific needs and aesthetic preferences of the homeowners. The first featured design, "Japan Meets Midcentury" by Helios Design Group, transformed an attic in Jamaica Plain into a primary suite's bathroom. The designers aimed for a tranquil treehouse feel, referencing the natural views outside the windows and skylights. They utilized mossy-green glazed tiles with subtle color variations, reminiscent of evergreen needles. These tiles are stacked vertically to emphasize height and extend across the back wall, wrapping around a natural wood door which is visible in an asymmetrical walnut-framed mirror. To provide visual contrast, the tiles stop short of the vanity on the opposite wall, where white paint offers a visual break from the deep green. The cabinetry features pale ash wood, chosen by interior design director Ariel Roth for its spa-inspired feel and resemblance to Japanese bathtubs, aligning with the midcentury modern aesthetic. Peter Buzzelle Custom Carpentry handled the contracting, and Boston Millwork provided the cabinetry. The second design, "Classic New England" by Allison Whittemore of Erin Gates Design, focused on redesigning a primary bath in a historic Brookline home for young professionals. Whittemore aimed for a classic yet fresh feel. A key element is a large walk-in shower lined with sage green tiles. These 4-by-12-inch ceramic tiles from Fireclay Tile are installed in a traditional subway pattern, but their elongated shape, handmade quality, and unique sage hue contribute to a sense of calm. The green color was chosen for its architectural appropriateness, echoing the original color of the home's exterior shutters. The herbaceous green is balanced by a cerused white oak vanity with reeded slab-front doors and drawers. Whittemore notes that using color primarily in the shower creates a cozy statement without overwhelming the entire room. Sam Kachmar Architects (SKA) served as the architect, and Cambridgeport Construction was the contractor. Finally, "Artfully Enchanting" by Shannon Tate Interiors features a bathroom for two young boys in Lincoln. The clients, having moved from Cambridge for a more natural setting, inspired the nature-themed design. Designer Shannon Tate wrapped the vanity nook with Mind the Gap’s Enchanted Woodland wallpaper, depicting a fairytale-like forest with horses, wolves, and deer. This wallpaper is playful yet sophisticated enough to appeal to various age groups. Drawing from monochromatic inspiration, Tate paired the emerald green wallpaper with irregular, handmade zellige tiles in various green tones. An adjacent wall was also painted in an earthy green to complement the theme. The vanity itself is made of espresso-stained maple, chosen to evoke the appearance of a tree trunk, further integrating the natural theme into the space. M.P. Construction handled the contracting for this project. #BathroomDesign #GreenColorScheme #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #NatureInspired #TileDesign #VanityDesign #HomeDecoration #BathroomDesign #GreenColorScheme #InteriorDesign #HomeRenovation #NatureInspired #TileDesign #VanityDesign #HomeDecoration
