Mirror, Mirror On The Wall...The New Age Of Smart-Mirrors
Smart mirrors are an emerging trend that integrates advanced technology into the traditional bathroom mirror, offering functionalities beyond mere reflection. These mirrors are designed with optimal illumination, providing features such as adjustable light intensity and color temperature, ranging from warm candlelight to cool light. This adaptability ensures suitable lighting for various tasks, like makeup application or grooming, and can be adjusted to different times of the day.
Duravit, a prominent manufacturer, offers a range of smart mirrors in both circular (Happy D.2 Plus collection) and rectangular (XSquare) designs. These mirrors incorporate varying luminosity levels, from cool light ideal for detailed tasks to warm light for relaxation. They also include defogging features that clear mirror steam in less than five seconds and a memory function to store preferred light settings for daily convenience. Control is managed through minimally designed, integrated icon panels.
Kohler's Verdera Voice Lighted Mirror exemplifies this trend with its voice control capabilities, powered by Amazon Alexa. This mirror seamlessly connects with Kohler’s Konnect app, allowing users to manage various smart home products, including shower settings and lighting levels. The Verdera Voice mirror duplicates the functions of an Amazon Echo, enabling users to shop, play music, or receive traffic updates directly from the mirror. It features built-in, voice-controlled, dimmable LED lighting, adjustable up to 1000 lux for precise grooming, and a motion-activated night light for safe navigation in the dark, which brightens for handwashing. The design also includes two pivoting side mirrors to direct light where needed, available in multiple lengths.
Capstone Connected Home introduced its smart mirror at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in 2020. This smart mirror functions like a tablet, offering both touchscreen and voice interfaces, internet access, and an Android operating system. Users can download various applications and utilize Google Voice Assistant for hands-free operations. The Capstone Smart Mirror allows consumers to check traffic, watch beauty vlogs on YouTube, browse social media, and get news updates. It integrates with Google services, enabling users to control smart home devices like lights and coffee makers or access work-related applications such as Google Drive, all while performing daily routines like brushing teeth.
The Capstone Connected Control Hub, a proprietary docking feature, drives the mirror's functionality. This hub facilitates setting up music playlists, messaging apps, and social media profiles when connected to Wi-Fi. Essentially, any content accessible via a smartphone or tablet can be displayed on the Capstone Connected Smart Mirror. The mirror is designed for versatile placement in bathrooms, hallways, entryways, or bedrooms and can be installed conventionally or placed on a vanity with a stand. It is available for preorder in a 19 x 22-inch size, illustrating how smart mirrors are evolving to become central, interactive hubs within modern homes.
