Frederica Reintroduces Sofie Østerby’s Hydro Vase

Fredericia has expanded its Complements line by reintroducing the Hydro vase, designed by Sofie Østerby, now crafted from mouth-blown crystalline glass. Originally launched in 2020, the Hydro vase was first produced in solid brass, which was designed to oxidize to a black finish, offering a distinct aesthetic. The Complements line is a collaborative effort by Fredericia, aiming to integrate objects from emerging Danish and international designers that enhance their existing furniture collections. Østerby's design philosophy for the Hydro vase draws inspiration from historical vessel forms, including classic ceramic vases, ancient Greek artifacts, and traditional pottery. Her creative process emphasizes timelessness, exploring how textures and material properties contribute to a design's enduring appeal. The transition from solid brass to transparent, mouth-blown glass for the Hydro vase marks a contemporary evolution of these traditional influences. This new material choice allows the vase to interact with light and its surroundings in a different manner, highlighting the fluid form and the artisanal craft of glassblowing. The use of crystalline glass transforms the vase into a modern interpretation of these centuries-old art forms. The transparency of the material reveals the contents of the vase, whether flowers or simply light, creating an interplay that was not present in the opaque brass version. This material shift also alters the tactile experience and visual weight of the object, offering a lighter, more ethereal presence in a space. The reintroduction in glass underscores Østerby's commitment to material exploration and Fredericia's dedication to offering versatile and thoughtfully designed decorative elements. The Hydro Glass Vase is available in two distinct sizes, providing options for various interior settings and floral arrangements. The careful craftsmanship involved in mouth-blowing each vase ensures that each piece possesses unique characteristics, embodying the handmade quality that is central to design. This addition enriches the Complements line, offering consumers a refined piece that combines historical reverence with modern design sensibilities, designed to complement contemporary living spaces. #Fredericia #SofieØsterby #HydroVase #MouthBlownGlass #HomeFurnishings #InteriorDesign #DanishDesign #DesignCollaboration #Glassware #Fredericia #SofieØsterby #HydroVase #MouthBlownGlass #HomeFurnishings #InteriorDesign #DanishDesign #DesignCollaboration #Glassware
