Here are the most popular bathroom splurges for homeowners in 2017

The home design platform Houzz has released its predictions for 2026 home design trends, based on insights from its community of homeowners and design professionals. The overarching theme for the upcoming year is a return to traditional design, infused with sleek Art Deco details and modern touches. This blend aims to create spaces that are both sophisticated and contemporary, moving away from purely minimalist aesthetics. Traditional styles, particularly those influenced by English country and Tudor designs, are expected to expand beyond the kitchen into other areas of the home. In kitchens, elements like arched range hoods and rich wood cabinetry will contribute to an English charm. Throughout the rest of the home, homeowners can expect to see curves, arches, and scalloped edges used to soften spaces and add character. Built-ins, paneling, and detailed millwork will be utilized to create depth. The color palette will feature earthy tones such as olive green, taupe, and deep brown, complemented by stained woods and muted blues or burgundies, reinforcing a timeless appeal. Despite the embrace of traditional styles, flat-panel cabinets and vanities are predicted to remain popular, offering a timeless and practical solution. Their sleek surfaces are easy to clean, making them ideal for high-traffic areas like kitchens. Homeowners are choosing real wood tones or matte finishes to maintain a minimalist yet inviting aesthetic. This trend is supported by Houzz's 2025 Kitchen Trends Study, which indicates flat-panel cabinetry as the second most popular style, after classic Shaker cabinets. “Quiet elegance” is a key phrase for 2026, manifesting in the widespread use of natural stone countertops and backsplashes. Materials such as quartzite and marble will be favored for their organic and luxurious feel, without being overly ostentatious. When paired with flat-panel wood cabinets, these natural stones will create a classic and refined look. Another trend gaining traction is checkerboard tile flooring, which adds character to kitchens and bathrooms. While the classic black and white pattern remains an option, professional designers are incorporating jewel tones like emerald, oxblood, and burgundy to introduce more vibrant color. High-quality materials like honed marble and handmade terra cotta are being used to elevate the look, offering a balance between traditional charm and modern flair. For renters, peel-and-stick checkerboard tiles provide an affordable and temporary way to update flooring. In bathrooms, wall-mounted faucets are anticipated to be a highly sought-after upgrade during renovation projects. Their sleek and streamlined appearance, coupled with practical benefits such as easier cleaning and space-saving on countertops, makes them an attractive choice. These faucets also offer greater flexibility in design, compatible with various sink types including vessel, double, and custom-made sinks. Zoned built-ins are emerging as a functional and space-maximizing feature in living rooms. These integrated wall units can combine entertainment areas, fireplaces, storage, and even beverage stations. By maximizing vertical wall space, they reduce the need for additional furniture, making rooms feel more open and organized. Designers encourage mixing materials, textures, and colors within these built-ins, such as combining wood cabinetry with natural stone, glass shelving, or metal accents, to enhance visual interest. The iconic Art Deco style is expected to make a significant comeback. This revival will bring back chevron patterns, brass metal accents, and rich jewel tones, blending historical opulence with contemporary sensibilities. The style aims to create spaces that feel both luxurious and modern. Warm yellow accents, including shades like ocher, mustard, and honey, will be used to add warmth and comfort to rooms. These colors can be incorporated through furniture, such as velvet sofas, wall paint, or textiles like pillow covers and throw blankets. Outdoor spaces are also a focus, with more homeowners transforming their lawns into lush gardens featuring hedges, planters, and diverse greenery. Landscape architects are designing outdoor “destinations” like fire lounges, reading nooks, and dining patios, often connected by natural or man-made pathways. This approach aims to define boundaries while maintaining flow, creating a layered landscape that feels structured, inviting, and conducive to relaxation and connection with nature. Finally, Houzz notes that homeowners are seeking greater transparency and clarity in renovation projects. This includes a demand for detailed timelines, visual progress updates, and clear payment schedules. Augmented reality (AR) models are also becoming essential tools, allowing homeowners to visualize their finished spaces digitally before any physical work begins, thereby enhancing confidence and satisfaction in the renovation process. #HomeDesign #Houzz #InteriorDesignTrends #ArtDeco #BathroomRemodel #KitchenDesign #OutdoorLiving #TraditionalStyle #NaturalStone #HomeDesign #Houzz #InteriorDesignTrends #ArtDeco #BathroomRemodel #KitchenDesign #OutdoorLiving #TraditionalStyle #NaturalStone
