8 Carpet Floor Trends That Are Having A Moment In 2025

When considering new carpeting for a home, various factors are important, including color preference, suitability for high-traffic areas, and ease of cleaning, especially for pet owners. Beyond these practical considerations, current design trends significantly influence choices, with an emphasis on aligning selections with popular styles to avoid an outdated appearance. Interior designers, who are continually engaged with clients, home updates, and emerging styles, offer valuable insights into these trends. Several professional designers, in exclusive interviews, have identified key carpeting trends for 2025. A notable trend is the resurgence of wall-to-wall carpeting, a style popular from the 1950s to the 1980s that later gave way to hard flooring options. Kelly Kuehn, an interior designer at FLOOR360, attributes this comeback to the rise of Modern Traditional design, which blends vintage and new elements to create comfortable spaces. She highlights carpeting's benefits, such as comfort, warmth, and sound absorption, noting its ability to evoke a nostalgic and tactile feel. Textured carpets are also gaining popularity due to their aesthetic appeal and practicality. Bertha Sanchez, interior designer and owner of Floor Coverings International of Southwest Denver, states that ribbed, looped, or cut-loop patterns are dominant. These textures align with biophilic design and nature-inspired interiors, offering an authentic feel. Sanchez also points out their practical advantage in hiding wear and tear, aligning with a broader shift from minimalism to cozier, layered aesthetics. For those hesitant to fully re-carpet, textured area rugs offer a flexible way to incorporate this trend. Earth-toned carpets are another significant trend, moving beyond traditional neutrals. Sanchez explains that the popular colors of 2025 are deeper and more nature-inspired, including clay, sage green, warm taupe, sand, and mushroom gray. This shift is driven by the growing influence of sustainability and wellness in home design, as earthy tones create a more restorative and grounded environment compared to previous popular beiges and grays. Coordinating wall colors can further enhance this cohesive design. Patterned carpeting is re-emerging as a key design element, particularly in bedrooms, home offices, and boutique-style living rooms. Sanchez notes that today's patterned carpets are cleaner, crisper, and easier to maintain than older styles, allowing homeowners to express individuality without overwhelming the space. Geometric area rugs can serve as an introductory step to this trend. Sustainability is increasingly central to consumer choices. Sanchez emphasizes that eco-friendly and performance-driven carpets, made from recycled fibers, natural wool, or stain and moisture-resistant innovative materials, are in high demand. This reflects a growing awareness among homeowners about the environmental impact of their design decisions, making sustainable carpeting a significant choice. Carpet pile height is also a consideration, with both very low-pile and high-pile carpets having their moments. Evelina Juzėnaitė, principal interior designer at Planner 5D, highlights low-pile carpets for their versatility, modern aesthetic, easy cleaning, and durability, aligning with the modern desire for efficiency. Conversely, high-pile carpeting is also trending, as Sabrina Phillips, owner of Designing Women of Orange County, observes. Clients are increasingly opting for ultra-soft, luxurious high-pile carpets in bedrooms and lounges, seeking comfort and tactile coziness after years of minimalist trends. Area rugs also offer an accessible way to test this plush carpet trend. Finally, carpeted staircases are making a comeback. Jason Nazmiyal, owner and interior design expert at Nazmiyal Collection, notes this trend is linked to the return of maximalism, with homeowners experimenting with deep, saturated colors on staircases. Beyond their design impact, carpeted staircases offer warmth, coziness, and enhanced safety compared to hard floors, providing a cushion in case of falls. These trends collectively suggest a movement towards comfort, personalization, and environmental consciousness in carpet design for 2025. #CarpetTrends #HomeDesign #InteriorDesign #Flooring #SustainableMaterials #TexturedCarpets #EarthTones #WallToWallCarpeting #PatternedCarpets #CarpetedStaircases #CarpetTrends #HomeDesign #InteriorDesign #Flooring #SustainableMaterials #TexturedCarpets #EarthTones #WallToWallCarpeting #PatternedCarpets #CarpetedStaircases
