The brand-new Paint & Paper Library Botany collection is simply sublime
The Paint & Paper Library has launched its second wallpaper collection, "Botany," following the success of its "Tresco" collection. This new series maintains an organic theme, drawing inspiration from exotic flora, foliage, and decorative patterns observed by traveling artists. The collection comprises 52 colorways distributed across nine distinct patterns, each meticulously hand-drawn or painted.
The "Botany" collection is organized by color palette and is designed to harmonize with carefully selected paint shades from the Paint & Paper Library's existing range. This approach allows the wallpapers to seamlessly integrate into both classic and contemporary interior styles. Ruth Mottershead, Marketing Director of Paint & Paper Library, expressed anticipation for the designs to adorn homes globally, noting that the collection represents a journal of exotic botany and the elegant decor and architecture that complements it. The color palette draws its names from existing Paint & Paper Library paint shades, including combinations like Sea Nor Sky, Aqua Viva & Squid Ink; Porcelain, Plaster & Stone; Slate, Kohl & Steel; and Rhubarb, Scallion & Salt.
Key patterns within the collection include "Hardy Palm," which features a pencil illustration of the sculptural Trachycarpus palm. Inspired by botanical paintings on plaster walls, this design depicts strong vertical stems and bold architectural leaves, creating an alfresco ambiance with its five striking grounds. "Quatrefoil" presents a compact geometric form, derived from inlaid encaustic floor tiles but printed using traditional methods with overlaid inks to replicate the smooth, matte texture of ceramic. This pattern is available in nine colorways, each utilizing three flat colors in harmony.
"Folia" is a large-scale mural that creates an ethereal landscape of leafy silhouettes on a contemporary ombré ground. Its treatment is inspired by cyanotype, or blueprint processes, and comes in four tonal colorways, offering a sophisticated monochromatic balance ideal for a tranquil bedroom. "Honesty" is an elegant all-over design, created from a watercolor and crayon rendering of a leaf sprig. It draws inspiration from Indian botanical motifs and is available in seven contemporary colorways, providing a gentle ambiance to any room.
"Marquetry Tile" offers a timeless diamond design, inspired by marquetry and mosaic tiles. Its graphic form and geometric lines are softened by a traditional surface printing process, resulting in a gentle, painterly finish. It is available in seven two-tone color combinations. "Seedpod" is a small-scale, all-over motif referencing the seedpods of the Indian lotus flower. Evolved from crayon rubbings, this delicate surface print serves as a versatile backdrop for artwork and furniture, with a soft, textural finish available in seven colorways.
"Feather Flora" is a delicate all-over floral design featuring abstract flowers floating gently. Created from watercolor and crayon artwork, it is inspired by the feather-like outline of palm leaves. This small-scale pattern comes in five diverse colorways, each with a subtle fibrous texture, making it suitable for modern country living rooms. Finally, "Jangala," meaning ‘jungle’ in Hindi, is a contemporary reimagining of a sepia watercolor painting of a panoramic Indian jungle scene. Printed on a textural, non-woven base resembling watercolor paper, it features a soft, hand-drawn outline and is available in three graduated colorways, transitioning from light to dark.
