Everybody’s Buying These 4 Home Decor Trends Right Now, According To Etsy
The past year has significantly shifted focus towards home interiors, with individuals investing more time and resources into creating personalized and comfortable living spaces. This trend has led to a surge in interest in home decor, with many consumers turning to online marketplaces like Etsy to discover and purchase unique items. Etsy's 2021 home decor report, based on customer search data, highlights four prominent trends that are currently dominating the market, blending quirky aesthetics with functional design.
One of the most notable trends is the rise of wavy, squiggly, and curvy decor. Inspired by celebrity homes, this aesthetic incorporates organic shapes into various home accessories, including vases, wall art, and mirrors. Etsy reported a significant increase in searches for wavy candles, up 28,236%, and wavy mirrors, up 5,296%. This demonstrates a strong consumer preference for playful and unconventional designs that add a modern and artistic touch to interiors.
Another key trend identified is the resurgence of travertine. While marble has traditionally been a popular choice for home surfaces, travertine, a more durable and sustainable counterpart, is now taking center stage. Searches for travertine on Etsy increased by 361%, with consumers seeking both modern interpretations and vintage pieces. This material is being incorporated into various home items, from statement tables to cutting boards, offering a chic and sophisticated touch rooted in classic 80s design.
The popularity of checkered prints is also a significant trend. This pattern, often seen as the home decor equivalent of 'dopamine dressing,' has been widely adopted in interior design. Checkered items such as bath towels, beach towels, coasters, and pillows, available in a vibrant array of colors, have seen an 889% jump in searches on Etsy. This indicates a desire for bold, graphic elements that infuse spaces with energy and visual interest.
Finally, the concept of creating a 'home sanctuary' remains a strong driving force in decor choices. Despite easing pandemic restrictions, people continue to prioritize creating relaxing and comforting environments within their homes. This is reflected in the increased demand for products like eucalyptus shower bundles, bath caddies, and waffle towels, all contributing to a spa-like atmosphere. Interestingly, while fiddle leaf figs were previously popular, Etsy searches now show a preference for olive trees, suggesting a shift towards more serene and natural elements in creating a personal oasis.
