Castlery Review: The Jonathan Chaise Sectional Sofa Is My Forever Couch

This article presents a comprehensive review of the Castlery Jonathan Chaise Sectional Sofa with Ottoman, detailing the author's experience from ordering to assembly and daily use. The author, having recently moved to Westchester County, sought a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing sofa for their new home, eventually choosing this specific model from Castlery. The review highlights the selection process, which involved choosing between three styles (small chaise, medium chaise with ottoman, and L-shape), color options (blue, black, creamy white/heather oatmeal), and orientation (left or right). The author notes that despite initial reservations about purchasing furniture online without a physical inspection, the model photos were sufficient for their decision, opting for the medium-sized chaise with ottoman in heather oatmeal with a left-facing orientation. The ordering experience was largely positive, with clear communication regarding estimated arrival dates. Although the sofa was back-ordered, it shipped within three weeks and arrived three days later, which was faster than the initially quoted six weeks. A key aspect of the delivery process was the selection of a shipping method. The author initially chose free standard shipping, which would have left the heavy boxes on the ground floor, but was able to upgrade to 'Room of Choice' delivery for an additional $50. This upgrade ensured that the five large boxes were delivered directly to their living room by professional movers, a crucial detail given the size and weight of the furniture. Assembly of the sofa was described as straightforward and quick, taking approximately ten minutes with two people. The modular design, featuring built-in serrated alligator clips, allowed for easy locking of the sections without the need for tools. The author and their husband enjoyed experimenting with different configurations before settling on the intended arrangement against a wall. The sofa's design, being low to the ground and legless, simplified the assembly process considerably. The review also delves into the comfort and functionality of the Jonathan Chaise Sectional Sofa. The fabric is described as soft, welcoming, and grainy but not itchy, while the seating is relaxed yet firm, preventing excessive sinking. The deep seat depth is highlighted, comfortably accommodating the author's 5'5" height with feet at a perfect right angle. The author's 5'11" husband found comfort on the side edge, using the ottoman as a footrest and having ample space to lie down. The sofa is noted for its capacity to seat seven people comfortably, or eight including the ottoman. Favorite features include a designated "book nook" in the corner section, providing a cozy space for reading. The wide headrests and armrests are also praised; the headrest, though reaching only mid-back, serves as a convenient mini side table for items like journals, while the armrest dimensions (9.74 inches high, 7.02 inches long) are suitable for propping an iPad or computer. The rollable ottoman is another standout feature, offering versatility and ample surface area for various items, negating the immediate need for a coffee table. The overall aesthetic is described as chic and minimalistic, fitting seamlessly into the apartment and adaptable to future home decor styles. The ability to easily unclip and move individual sections is presented as a significant advantage for future rearrangements. The review concludes by endorsing the Castlery sofa as a worthwhile investment despite its price, emphasizing its comfort, versatile style, and durable construction.
